Villa | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 12
Villa Stefano dates back to the 10th century and was originally a traditional stone water mill. The villa was recently renovated and great care was taken to ensure this was done sympathetically, respecting the historical structure of the building. Whilst the property has all the comforts of a modern villa, many of the original features – including meter thick walls, wood beamed and tiled ceilings, and cotto floors still remain.
The property consists of two separate structures, the main villa and a second building that is divided into two independent apartments. The appartment can only be rented as additional accomodation and will not be rented separately. This additional accomodation can be added to reach the maximum capacity of 14 people.
Both properties are surrounded by a flower garden and lawn. The grounds include a kitchen garden close to the villa and guests are encouraged to use the produce from the garden during their stay. A beautiful trout stream also runs through the garden although fishing is not allowed.
The owners occupy the second apartment in the second building. They are a wonderful Australian couple who will be on site to help guests in any way they wish but are also more than willing to keep to themselves, if privacy is required.
Both the main villa and the apartment have far reaching views towards the Castle of Meleto and the hilltop medieval village of Vertine and offer guests a relaxed experience, perfect for rest and relaxation as well as a base to explore the local area.

Entering the property from a large covered terrace, you arrive in the spacious kitchen. It is fully equipped, based around a family-sized table and is the heart of the property.Leading off to the left, through a passageway, is a utility room with washing maching, drying area and ironing equipment and a separate bathroom with shower and WC. Continuing through the passageway is a formal dining room. An open brick archway in the kitchen leads into the spacious living room with fireplace, Satellite TV, DVD, and stereo system. The room is very light and airy and faces onto the courtyard between the two properties.Up one step from the living room, a door opens into the formal dining room which also faces the courtyard. The original bread oven with its ancient cotto tiles, still occupies one of the dining room walls and was probably used for baking when this room was actually open to the outside when the property was a mill.Still on the first floor, a door off the dining room leads you into into a large double bedroom with two additional single beds.
The second floor has a unique feeling with original cotto flooring, pietraserena stone stairs and door frames and wood beamed and tiled ceilings. The first bedroom is a double (the bed can be separated into twins on request) with a single additional bed. It faces the garden in direction of the parking area.Across the hall is a sitting room/study with large fireplace. A door to the right of the study opens into a spacious bedroom with a traditional French bed and large ensuite bathroom with shower stall. Across from the study, a second door opens into another double bedroom, also with ensuite bathroom with shower stall.Back in the landing, to the right is the door to an elegant, spacious bathroom with a washbasin, WC, bidet and large bathtub. The last door on the right is into the last of the spacious double bedrooms with French bed and complete ensuite bathroom with shower stall and window facing the garden.
This building is parallel to the villa, separated by a courtyard. The building was probably a barn at one time. Today it hosts two apartments with east-facing entrances. The additional apartment has Satellite TV, CD player, gas range with electric oven, fridge with freezer section, central gas heating. The additional apartment measures 80 sqm and sleeps 2/4 persons. Access is from the paved, furnished area in front of it. You enter into a spacious open plan living room with wooden staircase on the right that leads to the open upstairs gallery with a traditional double French bed and sitting area.To the left of the entrance is the living room with a fireplace and a double sofa bed. Set into the corner is the kitchen that has a counter separating it from the rest of the room. Also on the left in the living room, is a landing with doors to a utilities room and to a fully equipped bathroom with shower.
