The Tuscany region
Gaiole is in Siena Province only a 30 min drive from the historic city famous for it's Duomo, Campo and of course it's Palio, run twice a year in July and August.
Steeped in history, the regions characteristics are fashioned out of the centuries of Sienese-Florentine wars with hilltop castles and fortified villages scattered across the landscape, now providing the perfect backdrop for wine tasting, olive oil sampling and gastronomic tours.
For the more archaelogically minded there are Etruscan settlement sites to explore and the excellent Etruscan museums in Siena and Volterra to visit.
Florence is about 1.25 hrs away by car and just half an hour by train from nearby Montevarchi and makes for a comfortable day trip. It needs no introduction being one of the worlds finest cultural centres offering all year round opportunities to visit great galleries and 'palazzi'.
If that's not enough, try your hand at a cooking course and learn the secrets of Tuscan cuisine in nearby Lecchi or Coltibuono; or explore Gaiole 's sister Chianti League towns of Radda, Greve and Castallina; or venture a little further afield to the antique markets of Arezzo or the ancient towers of San Gimignano; or for 'Twilight' fans maybe a trip to the home of the Volturi in Volterra.
Gaiole in Chianti
There are over 100 wine producers in Gaiole commune alone forming the backbone of the local economy, ranging from the renowned Castello d'Ama and Castello di Brolio through to many small family vineyards.
A trading centre for local business, Gaiole offers five restaurants, three cafe bars, a pub, two delicatessens, a great value take away pizzaria, a tourist office, pharmacy, ATMs and local shopping caterering for all local delicacies and holiday needs.
Famous for it's cycling festival, L'Eroica held every year during the first weekend in October, the village also hosts frequent concerts and produce festivals throughout the year.
It is an excellent centre for walking and cycling (try some of the L'Eroica route yourselves with our free to use cycles); the Siena-Florence long distance footpath runs along the ridge above the village, and walking notes are provided for a number of circular routes around Gaiole. There is a maze of waymarked 'strada bianchi' (unsurfaced roads) criss-crossing the surrounding hills and valleys just waiting to be explored.
If you are not that energetic, Gaiole is the local base for 'Tuscan Scooter Rental' where you can hire a bright red Vespa on a daily basis! Check out www.tuscanyscooterrental.com
Vineyards and olive groves abound, amongst which sit the majestic Florintine castles of Meleto, Brolio and others. from the atmospheric ruins of of Castello di Montegrossi perched high above the village, you can look down on your accomodation and wonder at the magic of Chianti.

"Charming accommodations and beautiful surroundings!"
My husband and I stayed for four nights in this wonderful and clean apartment in the heart of Chianti. Phil was extremely responsive and helpful throughout the booking process and our stay even going so far as to stock the fridge with basics as we arrived on Easter and stores were closed. The apartment itself was very comfortable with everything that you would need to make for a pleasant stay including a red binder full of recommendations for places to eat and visit. The terrace is absolutely lovely! The center of town was a very short walk (less than 5 minutes) with some great restaurants and the Coop Grocery. We highly recommend it for anyone looking to stay within short beautiful drives to surrounding towns or to simply relax in a gorgeous setting. We will be back!

"A little piece of heaven on earth..."
Casacorvo Minore -- what a perfect place to call home for six days! Phil was terrific to deal with right from our first enquiry. (And we had the added pleasure of meeting him at the tail end of our vacation.) He was very accommodating, allowing us to arrive earlier in the day on our arrival day and leave later on our last day if we wanted to.
The apartment was spotless and had pretty much everything we could have wanted. We were greeted with a box of local wine, which we thoroughly enjoyed - especially while relaxing on the amazing patio area overlooking the picturesque town of Gaiole. After a busy first week of vacation, having such a relaxing and comfortable place to call home was very welcome. One of our favorite things to do was enjoy our espresso and breakfast on the patio every morning.
The onsite property managers were great and everything was very well-maintained.
The town itself was lovely. And the wineries all around the area were amazing! Such friendly people and amazing wines! (We wrote about some of our favorites in Phil's guestbook!) Make sure you go to Riecine winery and Le Contrade Ristorante (which Phil recommended to us for our last night - best meal and dining experience we've ever had anywhere).
There's a very helpful binder in the apartment with info about all sorts of restaurants, wineries and things to do in the area.
We would absolutely recommend this apartment to others - and in fact, have already.

"It was truly magical and fairy."
I went to tuscany with my boyfriend and couple friend of mine.
As soon as we have arrived we were blown away by the view from the terrace over Gaiole... the smell from its gardenia was exhilarating...
We were very impressed by the whole house and its decoration.. we could feel tuscany at CasaCorvo and at the same time at home (love the game boards and Cd's)... and the fountain!!! Whow! The house location is priceless!!!
We could find anything we need at the kitchen even a pic-nic basket!!
We wish we could have used the terrace (there were a table and terrace chairs) to have our meals but the weather did not help. Concerning the others facilities, they were fantastic but we had no time to use them... Maybe next time ;) (I will return for sure ;))
There's no words to describe how overwhelmed we were about everything (from the house until the landscape).
It is important to mention the kindness, helfullness and flexibility of the owner without him our dream could never come true. Thank you Phil, again.

"Perfect holiday base for visiting central tuscany"
We had a lovely time at Casacorvo Minore - the apartment was perfect - everything you need to enjoy your stay. Easy walking distance to the centre of Gaiole, where there were some lovely restaurants, and a fantastic takeaway pizzeria! Supermarket had everything we need and there were some other lovely little shops to get treats. Wine tasting was within walking distance (involved beautiful walks in the tuscan hills). Only downside was the weather - would probably not go in november again, as a bit wet and the wine tasting was slowing down!

"Comfort and relaxation in Chianti"
We enjoyed everything about Casacorvo. The view from the terrace is still in our minds weeks after we returned. Those beautiful rolling hills and the view over to Barbischio. Great pool which, in September was very quiet. We visited Siena, Florence, San Gimignano, Arezzo andthe wine festival at Greve in Chianti. Nice local wine left by Phil was much appreciated. The facilities in the Borgo were great. Gaiole is lovely and friendly and you don't have to go far to find nice meals and bars.

"No need to continue searching that's the place!"
We spent a magnificent one week in this beautiful apartment with my wife on our honeymoon. It is very well equipped and simply perfect. The apartment is big enough (I can say even for 4 person) and absolutely clean. A very important and great extra is the balcony which is more likely to be a garden. It is 100%-ly private and it was very lovely to have our breakfast with sunshine and nice view over the hills and the village.
Gaiole in Chianti is a very good place to make trips on foot and by car in several parts of Tuscany (we even went to the sea). You can easily reach Siena or Florence, but there are smaller cities like San Gimignano or Radda in Chianti which you should not miss.
The city itself is very peaceful and quiet, there is a shop close to the apartment and a winery as well.
We will return for sure!

"A lovely apartment in a magical setting"
We stayed for 5 nights and wished we didn't have to leave so soon.
Everything in the apartment was of good quality and we slept very well. The garden terrace was lovely, overlooking the village and church with rolling hills in the background. It was a bonus to be able to walk to shops and restaurants and all the locals were very welcoming and friendly. Gaiole was very much a local's village with a lovely bustling ambience - we had some good walks to other hill villages. The proximity to Siena made for a great day out,we took the local bus which saved the hassle of parking. Also recommended is San Gimignano which was very atmospheric and a scenic 1 hour drive away.

"Great Apartment and Brilliant Base for sightseeing"
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casacorvo Minore. It is a lovely apartment and well equipped. Very comfortable and the terrace has a good view of the surrounding area so is a great place to sit and chill! The pool is great. It is a fantastic base for sight seeing. Giaole has shops (loved the butchers) and a small supermarket which is a few minutes walk away (longer on the way back because of the hill!!) and some good restaurants.
Phil (the owner) was really helpful with plenty of advice before we went.
All in all a fantastic week and would definitely go back.

Stayed in this apartment for 6 days. The facilities were great, everything you needed was provided. The welcome bottle of local wine was a lovely touch. The swimming pool was beautiful and we were often the only ones using it. Giaole is a beautiful town and you can get everything you need from there (although due to our poor planning we often missed the opening hours) Two great pizzerias, lovely restaurants for late night Chianti. I can't wait to come back!!
