The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn region

Here in the TARN SW France, the rich & contrasting scenery varies from plains to mountains, and you are never far from places to explore and sights to visit:
In the summer, music festivals are held in the prestigious surroundings of the 12th century cathedral of ALBI, birth town of the artist Toulouse Lautrec.
The medieval village of CORDES is a gem of Gothic architecture on its « sugar loaf » 110m high, while the fairy-tale medieval walled city of CARCASSONNE, one hour away, is breathtaking.
When you tire of the rural delights of the TARN, why not visit pink-bricked TOULOUSE (“La Ville Rose”), with its beautiful squares, chic shops and many art galleries.
Though vibrant and cosmopolitan, TOULOUSE has a laid-back village-like atmosphere, and a relaxed pace of life. You will enjoy watching the world go by at the numerous pavement cafés in the Place Capitole, the city's heart since the 12th Century.
There are four excellent championship GOLF COURSES all about 20/30 mins away.
For the more technically minded you can visit the Space City “Cité de L'Espace” with MIR station, Ariane space rocket prototype and interactive games, making it also an interesting & unusual day trip for the children.
For longer day trips the PYRÉNÉES are 2 hours away, the nearest MEDITERRANEAN beach (Narbonne Plage) is just under 2 hours and the ATLANTIC Ocean at Biarritz is 3 hours.
The Gaillac area
Enjoy a stroll through the interesting & colourful street-markets to stock up on the fresh local produce.
GAILLAC, LISLE SUR TARN and RABASTENS through their typically fortified architecture will give you a taste of the middle ages with their handsome brick façades, half-timbered houses, and arcaded town squares.
Some of the best vineyards are to be found in the GAILLAC region, one of the oldest wine producing areas in France, originally planted by the Romans. We recommend some great wine tasting tours, sampling GAILLAC's high quality wines.
Beyond the GAILLAC vineyards, and their gently undulating hills, hikers will take pleasure in walking through the large forests of the Grésigne and Sivens.

We arrived a day earlier than usual to Les Tournesols and loved it so much we extended our stay for 5 more days after our first week was up! Its a purpose-built gite, with every comfort for the independent traveller (wireless access, full laundry, well-equipped kitchen). Very cozy inside and surrounded by serene gardens outside. The hosts live next door but do not intrude unless asked - but if you ask, they provide! I forgot my hairdryer and within minutes of asking, Gisella gave me her own. Very nice welcome package upon arrival, with a bottle of local wine and a basket of cheese and bread in case we had no time to shop. All in all, a very welcoming home and very hard to leave. |

We enjoyed a fantastic sunny fortnight at les Tournesols, and would thoroughly recommend this property as a holiday home for a family or adults- we have two young children and they had a great time in a safe environment. Very comfortable and well equipped accomodation, a wonderful saline pool, beautiful gardens, amazing views, a shady terrace and shooting stars to watch at night. Our hosts were welcoming, helpful but discreet. The surrounding area has no shortage of places to visit, and the local markets and vineyards allowed us to try out local produce- beautiful wines and cheeses We all loved our time at Les Tournesols. |

Beautiful location and perfectly equipped & elegant gite ! For anyone who is interested, there are tennis courts in Rabastens which is a pretty little town worth a visit in its own right.
