Les Trois Vents
Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 9
Les Trois Vents is a unique architect-designed villa (2006) perched on the highest point of a 400m high ridge overlooking the Tarn Valley and the nearby market town of Gaillac. The large south facing main terrace has 180 degree beautiful panoramic views across the valley, the vineyards, out to 'La Montagne Noire' (the SW point of the Massif Central) and the Pyrénées in the far distance. Every part of this beautiful villa has a terrace - including a private terrace off each bedroom. Guests can enjoy the privacy of their own bedroom terraces and the large full-sun south facing terrace with a sweet-smelling wisteria pergola for those who want some shade during the day. Sip on the delightful local wines and enjoy the spectacular sunsets in the evening. With lots of room to enjoy a BBQ for parties of up to 20, the changing skies and landscape, as the seasons evolve, are a sight to behold. Vineyards, sunflowers, lavender - the French countryside at your feet and everywhere around you!
The private swimming pool is on a lower terrace with the same spectacular views across the valley. The pool area is surrounded by an aromatic herb and fruit garden which guests are welcome to enjoy. The landscaped garden includes a lavender pathway to the pool which is a delight to the senses. Enjoy watching the hawks patrolling the valley from the nearby woods and the swifts arriving en masse for a dramatic few minutes to quench their thirst in the swimming pool!
The villa itself has a large living room with cathedral ceiling and open kitchen surrounded by french doors to the front and main terraces affording views across the valley from within. There is a large log fire with double-height chimney that reaches up through a minstrel's gallery at mezzanine level which has a chaise longue that can serve as an extra bed (not counted). The kitchen is bespoke with a large American-style fridge/freezer/icemaker and a double-range gas stove with electric ovens. The interior dining area has a large pine table and benches (but you won't want to spend a minute indoors during the summer months!). The living area has a large wide-screen TV, DVD and Sky Box (just bring your own sky card). There is WiFi internet access throughout.
The ground floor has a separate study that has views across the valley and that offers a quiet space in the house. The master queen-size bedroom and en-suite bathroom, a WC, the laundry/utility room (and private home-owner storage space to the rear) is also located on the ground floor. The upstairs has the minstrel's gallery over the living area with views across the valley from a higher level again. There are also three bedrooms upstairs: one queen-size, one with double-size bunk beds (2 x doubles), and one ante-room with a day-bed (and an extra pull-out bed underneath - not counted). Each bedroom offers a different view across the gardens and the countryside.
The front garden has a Lime (Linden) tree which offers shade during hot summer days and where you can play a game of table-tennis (equipment stored in the garage).
This property is suitable for discerning families and discerning groups of friends who love the French countryside and way of life. There are beautiful historic towns, villages and vineyards in every direction where you can enjoy excellent local food and wines and the easy-going, friendly life-style of this very special part of France. Gaillac is the main local town (5kms). Nearby, there is also Cordes-sur-Ciel, Cahuzac-sur-Veres, Castlenau-de-Montmiral, Broze, Lisle-sur-Tarn, Puycelci and many other delightful places. The nearest city is Albi (24kms), home of the UNESCO world heritage site of Albi Cathedral (to be seen to be believed - the largest brick building in the world dating back to the Cathars 13c).
Make Les Trois Vents your choice of villa this year - the perfect location to explore the Tarn valley and its environs and to luxuriate in its most special surroundings.

The Midi-Pyrenees region
The Midi-Pyrénées is the largest French region, and is located between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The region is famous for its good living and boasts the longest life expectancy in France. It comprises eight departments: Ariège, Aveyron, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées, Lot, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne. With the exception of the Hautes-Pyrénées all owe their name to the river that runs through it. The region is predominantly rural and has plenty of attractions to visit. Rocamadour, in the Lot, is among the most visited places of interest in France, second only to Mont Saint-Michel.
If you are interested in insects and nature, there is Micropolis in the Aveyron. Near here you can also visit the spectacular and breathtaking Millau Bridge on the A75 where it crosses the Tarn. At over 300 meters (the highest in the world) it is even taller than the Eiffel tower. Also the Cité de l'Espace, the space experience in Toulouse with MIR space station, Ariane space rocket prototype and interactive games, make it a fantastic place to visit with something for all the family.
Here in the Tarn, the lush and contrasting scenery varies from plains to mountains, and you are never far from places to explore and sights to visit. There are lots of cultural and sporting activities to enjoy in the area, from Opera and String quartets playing in the courtyard of a vineyard, to golf, horse riding and bicycling, windsurfing, canoeing, walking, fishing, rock climbing etc. A holiday here can be as quiet or as active as you please. The medieval village of Cordes-sur-Ciel is a beautiful example of Gothic design on its rocky outcrop, while the magnificent medieval walled city of Carcassonne, 90 minutes away, is breathtaking. If you need a quick fix of French sophistication why not visit the vibrant and cosmopolitan, pink-bricked Toulouse (“La Ville Rose”), with its beautiful squares, chic shops and many art galleries.
You must visit the city of Albi- it is a UNESCO World Heritage site with its 1000 year-old bridge over the River Tarn (one of the oldest brick-built bridges in existence) and the Toulouse Lautrec Museum and gallery. The old city of Albi reflects the culmination of medieval architectural and urban ensemble. Today the Old Bridge (Pont-Vieux), the Saint-Salvi quarter and its church are testimony to its initial development (10th -11th centuries). Following the Albigensian Crusade against the Cathar heretics (13th century) it became a powerful episcopal city. Built in a unique southern French Gothic style from local brick in characteristic red and orange colours, the lofty fortified Cathedral (late 13th century) dominates the city, demonstrating the power regained by the Roman Catholic clergy. Alongside the Cathedral is the vast bishop's Palais de la Berbie, overlooking the river and surrounded by residential quarters that date back to the Middle Ages. The Episcopal City of Albi forms a coherent and homogeneous ensemble of monuments and quarters that has remained largely unchanged over the centuries.
Also in the Midi-Pyrénées is the Gresigne Forest. This glorious ancient woodland, one of the largest in Europe, covers three and a half thousand hectares, houses over one hundred species of oak tree, and is rich with birdlife, wild boar, deer, and hares - and red squirrels! There are many shaded and secluded walks and cycle ways within the forest. For those for whom horse riding is the way to explore the countryside, there are stables and riding schools in the area. There are several excellent golf courses in the region. Beautiful walks through vineyards in all directions are possible. This area of France is loved by cyclists – the Tarn region offers more than 20 tours with 4 difficulty levels — from family outing to route for experienced cyclists.
Enjoy a stroll through the interesting & colourful street-markets to stock up on the fresh local produce. GAILLAC and its surrounding villages have typically fortified architecture that will give you a taste of the middle ages with their handsome brick façades, half-timbered houses, and arcaded town squares.
Some of the best vineyards in France are to be found in the GAILLAC region, one of the oldest wine producing areas in France, originally planted by the Romans before even Bordeaux. There is wine tasting in many of the local vineyards and most produce AOC wine. Gaillac has a market every Friday morning, a relaxed village-like atmosphere and a hassle-free pace of life. You will enjoy watching the world go by at the many pavement cafés. The 10th Centuary Abbaye Saint Michel offers many concerts, fetes and the Gaillac Wine Festival in August. Lisle-sur-Tarn has a lake with miniature boats and a chocolate museum! Cordes-sur-Ciel- a stunning medieval hilltop bastide village- is only 25 minutes away.
