Farmhouse | 6 bedrooms | sleeps 10
Sainte Cecile is the house we dreamed of when we decided to move to rural France back in 2000. It is in its own world, but 40 minutes away from the coast. You really are king of your own domain here, with everything you need to make a really special holiday.
We fitted a new kitchen this year with underfloor heating, just in case of winter visitors. We also painted the exterior of the house and extended the terrace to make it even more special.
There is an enormous amount of space, a huge garden including a swimming pool and toddler pool, BBQ, a boules pitch, trampoline, swings and table-tennis table. A short walk away is our own almond grove. If you like walking you will never tire of the endless glorious walks around the house.
There are two sitting rooms, six bedrooms, two bathrooms plus two separate toilets, a billiard room, a fully stocked library, two fireplaces and Sky TV. Plenty of empty cupboard space for your things and room for pets, children and grandparents. Our water comes from our very own spring. The linen is top notch and we don't do plastic chairs. This is a home not some neglected rental property.
Sainte Cecile has proved popular with everyone from large families to retired couples. People can't help but be charmed by the unique character of the place.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The Languedoc is France's largest wine-growing region, so if it's wine tasting you're after you've come to the right place. But apart from that there is masses to see and do. Kayaking down the Orb River, visiting the fabulous Saturday market in the Medieval town of Pezenas (just 20 minutes away from us), having lunch by the sea at Marseillan. If you're into golf there is a charming course at Lamalou-les-Bains and we have a tennis court 15 minutes away from the house in a hilltop village. If you're keen on parties they don't get much wilder than the Beziers feria in August. The climate is lovely, winters can be cold, even in the south of France, but there is not one week of any year we lived there that we weren't able to sit outside on the terrace. One Christmas Day we had drinks outside in the sunshine.
The landscape is what really sets this area apart, it is stunning and diverse. At the house you are in between the mountains and the plain so you get the best of both worlds. Any time of year the area is beautiful. It is one of the least polluted places in Europe and the air is always fresh. The stars at night are incredible.
