The Algarve region
The Algarve is located on Europe's westernmost tip, in the south of Portugal.Atlantic coastline measures roughly 150Km in length.The Algarve's geographical position gives it some special bioclimatic features. Although situated by the Atlantic Ocean, it has a temperate climate with Mediterranean characteristics, more than 3,000 hours of sunlight per year and a low annual average rainfall
-The Litoral (coastal area) is where most of the region's economic activity is concentrated. In terms of landscape, the Algarve coast is very diversified, varying between abrupt and jagged coastlines, extensive sandy beaches, inlets formed by lagoons, marshland areas and various formations of sand dunes. The predominant rocks are essentially of the sedimentary type (as is the case with the arenites and conglomerates). Morphologically, the coastal area has a low altitude and mainly consists of plains, divided into fields and meadows;
Fuzeta area
Fuzeta is a small town in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Fishing boats leave from one end of the quay, small pleasure boats and the ferry to the island from the other. Its sleepy in winter, busy for about a month in summer. It has a street market on Thursdays and a flea market on the first Sunday of every month. It has a small lagoon beach in the town and a very long and lovely ocean beach on the island. It has a campsite by the quay and two train stations. The highlight of the year in Fuzeta is the Festival in Honour of our Lady of Carmo in July. It is a religious festival in which a statue of 'Our Lady of Livramento' is taken out on the water in search of 'Our Lady of Carmo', the ceremony acting as a blessing for the town's fishermen for the next year. Many boats participate in the procession, all decorated with flags and flowers, all sounding horns and hooters. The procession leaves the harbour in Fuzeta and goes as far as the barra - the gap between the island via which the fishing boats reach the ocean.
