About the home

Located a few minutes from the Old Town and the centre of Funchal, Quinta Esperança,a traditional house with three self catering apartments, offers you a very quite, calm and peaceful holiday. With lots of fruit trees, typical plants, bananas and vine yards, you can enjoy the typical environment of Madeira Island. ORCHID, is a new apartment placed up on the top floor of the building. It is beautifully decorated, very private and enjoys the same view from the terrace over the harbour and the whole city of Funchal. JASMIM and MAGNOLIA connect directly to the gardens on the ground floor, where you can have your meals, or a wonderful moment of leisure and rest, either in a shadow or at the marvellous sunny swimming pool.The terrace upstairs with a loung and all decorated, enjoys a superb view over the sea and harbour.Only three apartments share all this, so it has a very private environment. If you don´t like to stay in any crowded place, surely Quinta Esperança is your best choice..

Each apartment is an open space, tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with each own bathroom and kitchen....They are totally private and equipped with everything you may need for your stay. . Bed linen, bath towels, mats, and pool towels are provided. Each apartment has it´s own hairdryer. Each kitchen is equipped with an eletric hob/extractor, microwave, kettle, toaster, frigge/frizer,dishes,pans. The sitting room has it´s own TV with about 42 channels. Wireless system is now available, either inside the apartments as outside in the gardens. We offer you a welcoming pack on your arrival day. In front of each apartment, you have an outside table and chairs, where you can enjoy your all fresco meals. We have a separated utility room with washing machine, dryer, iron, iron table, etc, for your commodity. In this place, you can also keep your empty luggage during your stay.

POOL, GARDENS AND TERRACE: In the gardens,we offer you some comfortable furniture where you can just seat and relax, while reading a book. Each apartment is provided with a table and chairs outside, for wonderful meals during your stay . The terrace upstairs, with a magnificient view, offers you a special moment while watching the cruises coming. We have some deckchairs all around, that you can take to your favourite corner of the Quinta. With the wireless system, you can be working at your lap top outside the apartments, at the gardens. The pool is for the exclusive use of our guests, so used for the most of three couples. The swimming pool area is provided with deckchairs, chairs, table and sunumbrella, for each couple. We have a separated utility room with washing machine, dryer, iron, iron table, etc, for your commodity. In this place, you can also keep your empty luggage during your stay.

APARTMENT ORCHID: ORCHID apartment: located at the top of the house just beside the archad's terrace, this was our last apartment, finally renewed. It is separated from it by some doors, so you will keep all your privacy.it enjoys a wonderful view over the city and harbour. It has it's own balcony, with a table and two chairs for you to enjoy your meals outside. Inside the apartment, you have a lot of space and lots of light, as it has 3 big windows, all them with a fantastic view over the sea and city. it is equipped with a king bed size (1, 60mt), very comfortable mattress, wonderful pillows, which will make your rest longer than you thought. The kitchen is equipped with everything you may need for your stay, including a big fridge. The bathroom inside the apartment, is also spacey and looks very nice, as you can see through the pictures. As 'ORCHID' is located on the second floor of the building, you must be sure you are well fitted to get there, as the access is by some exterior stairs outside.

The Madeira region

Only 3 hours fly from England , and 1,30hour from Lisbon, this Island is adorable for its famous Levada walks, Flower Festival, Festival of the Atlantic and the famous End of the Year fireworks.

The Funchal area

In Funchal Town, you will find the farmer’s market, the main shopping area and a plentiful selection of restaurants, cafés, bars . The main bus departure points for the island is the perfect base from which to explore this charming town and the stunning rugged island.

The easy location of the Quinta, offers you all the comfort of not having to hire a car. On your arrival and departure day, we can provide you the transfer from the airport. The regular bus service (1€ per trip) is very good and the bus stop is located at the gate of the Quinta. If you like to walk, Funchal city center is just 15minutes away, through a very nice road. As it is a bit steep to come back, better to take the bus number 31, the same that goes up to the beautiful Botanical Garden. At a late hour, a taxi will cost you no more than 5€. If you prefer to have a car just for a few days to explore the Island, we can try to get you the best price. The parking area in front of the Quinta , offers you plenty of space at any time of day or night. The quietness and calm of this place, is only broken with the singing of the birds all over the gardens and trees of the Quinta. The sea view is all over. We offer you a bit all around, some garden furniture for your leisure moments

Located in Funchal city just by the historic old quarter, 19 kmts distant from the local airport. The sea is within walking distance (15-20 min walking down the road). The Quinta Esperança is located in a charming quiet and peaceful residential area of Funchal, surrounded by traditional houses. Funchal market, shops, museums and cable car are just down the road within walking distance as is the old town with all the restaurants, cable car and shops. Palheiro golf course within 15min car ride. Bus stop is just by the gate and will be useful for coming back home from the city center. Plenty of parking area just outside on the road.

We have had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at "Quinta Esperança". It was a very quaint apartment with spetacular views.
We especially enjoyed the mangoes from the trees and Roberto´s kindness taking us down to the marina to see the queens Elizabeth ship in the dock - thank you!!
we regularly sat up on the balcony to enjoy the sunsets with a glass of wine.
Thank you both for making us very welcome in your apartment.
We are sad to be going home!
You never know if we come this way again, we will certainly come to "Quinta Esperança".

I am not used to write comments on hotels. But sometimes there are exceptions... Indeed our holidays here were perfect. We were surprised of the beauty of the Quinta, because it was better than the pictures :very quiet place, nice view, traditional Quinta, bigg swimming pool... Excellent choice. It is difficult to do better.

Me and my boyfriend stayed t the Quinta Esperanca in september 2010. The first thing we noticed was how cosy the house and garden looked and what a great view it had over the atlantic ocean. When we saw the flat we were even more pleased. The flat was a studio apartment perfect for two adults. The interior felt very "homie" and cosy and we really enjoyed staying in it. Everything about the Quinta Esperanca really did live up to our expectations. The location of the house was also good even though the steap streets down to town sometimes didn´t feel very appealing:) However, it did not take long to walk downtown and the old town district is very calm and interesting. Our stay in Madeira was great and we would definetely recommend the Quinta Esperanca to other visitors!

We stayed for a week in July and had an amazing time. As everyone says on the reviews it is gorgeous and exactly what the pictures look like. It really is extremely relaxing there. The hill can be a bit tiring but do what we did and just relax by the pool the whole time! The town is lovely to pop into for some drinks. It also has a very safe feeling the whole time we were there.
Helena & Roberto are perfect hosts and so friendly and welcoming. We couldn't suggest a better place for a quiet week away.
Recommended for: Romantic Getaway

5 The most magical place and holiday

We stayed in Magnolia apartment in July 2010 and had one of the most amazing holidays. The apartment was to a very high standard with excellent use of space. The outside spaces and the peace of the area were what made our stay so perfect. Breakfast on the patio, overlooking the sea; lazing by the pool; afternoons on the swing chair or up on the upstairs patio. Helena was so welcoming and even prepared us a light meal for our arrival, which was very much appreciated as we had a delayed flight. The house is in the old town, which is not touristy but has some great restaurants (I recommend Jardin). You do not need a car and if you are used to exercise, can easily walk up the hills home. 3 weeks after we have come back and we still can't stop telling people how amazing this place is.
