Casa Pico Musica
About the home
Located just a few minutes walk from many of Funchal's most popular "must see places" you are living in the real city not the hotel tourist zone located several miles away from the city centre.
This new luxury attic conversion has breathtaking views of Funchal city, the Harbour and out over the Atlantic towards the Desert Islands. It is the perfect place for relaxing whilst enjoying the annual fireworks shows every Saturday in June and of course spectacular city wide display celebrating the New Year.
You can watch (and often even hear) the daily comings and goings of the many cruise ships which visit this spectacular island plus the assorted little pleasure boats that sail in and out often 2 or 3 times a day.
Fully furnished for that perfect self catering holiday you can even pick and sample several different exotic fruits (depending upon season) from the owners courtyard garden below (accessed by your own private spiral staircase).
There is even a small secluded sun bathing area where you can enjoy the late morning - early afternoon sun, or if you prefer you can just sit and and relax in the cooling shelter of the trees & vines.
You can even bring down your cooked food & wine and dine alfresco in the evening (garden table & chairs are available).
The trees and vines also provide a welcome retreat on those late summer days when it sometimes just gets too hot to do anything other than relax with a good book or a cool drink.
Remember the solar UV levels in Madeira are the same in March as they are back in the UK in June!
Funchal's UV levels in mid summer reach extremes like 11 or 12, so bringing with you some sun lotion is highly recommended.
The resident owners below will always give you a warm welcome and can provide you with lots of information, advice and help to make sure this is a holiday to remember.
We want you to feel you are real guests in our home and hope that you will return again and again as much missed friends.

The Madeira region
Madeira the "Pearl of the Atlantic," this beautiful sub-tropical island is a dream holiday destination that now with 3.5 hour budget flights from the UK is not going to cost an arm and a leg to visit.
The perfect getaway from North European winters for anyone who enjoys the out door life and does not want to stay in a concrete jungle on a barren rock or fly half way around the world to relax in lush green and flower decked sub tropical surroundings.
Sun sets around 6pm in the winter (1.5 to 2 hours later than back in the UK) & Madeira is even in the same time zone as the UK so no need to change your watch or worry about time differences when calling to and from the UK.
There is a UNESCO listed evergreen forest (a relic from pre ice age days) covering over half the island plus spectacular cliff hugging roads and an amazing 1200m high plateaux which looks like the moorlands to explore if you really want to feel away from it all.
Blessed by the gulf stream and on the same latitude as Bermuda & Los Angeles the Atlantic Ocean waters are never cooler than 17 degrees in late winter and reach 25 in late summer. Numerous small natural black sand, shale & rocky beaches are dotted around the island. Funchal's main beach, Praia Formosa to the west of the city, is over 1km long is also worth a visit with it's beach-side bars & cafes where you can sit enjoy the sunsets after lazing on the black sand or swimming in the warm ocean waters. There are also 2 man made golden sand beaches to visit on the island if you want to rent sunbeds & parasol and do some serious sunbathing.
You can walk till you drop along the hundreds of kms of levadas (small water channels) which follow the contours of the hills and mountains throughout the island.
Spectacular scenery, 500m high sea cliffs (Cabo Girao), a drive-in mountain top (1800m Pico Ariero where it is even possible some-days to have snow ball fights in late winter!) you will never regret visiting Madeira.
The people are friendly and most speak basic and many speak excellent English so do not worry if you did not learn Portuguese at school.
Perfect for honeymooners and romantic getaways or anyone who enjoys nature, Madeira is not on the Club 18-30 circuit but she certainly is not just a destination for Saga holiday members, not of course that we would wish to exclude any who will equally be assured of the warmest of welcomes
The Funchal area
Funchal has a fantastic historical heritage, she is over 500 years old but you still have all the conveniences of a modern city. Wonderful museums, beautiful old streets, magnificent churches, pretty squares plus, if you need to buy something, Funchal has 3 modern shopping centres, (2 also have cinemas) where you can shop till you drop or watch a movie (all Hollywood films simply have Portuguese sub-titles).
Take a bus or cable car to one or both of the world famous gardens of Monte and the Funchal Botanical gardens overlooking the city, (both are visible from your balcony), or just stroll down the road to enjoy the gardens of Quinta das Cruzes, the English Church, the Jardim Municipal and Santa Catarina park.
Play golf on the beautiful Palheiro (18 hole) or Santo da Serra (27 hole) courses, go snorkelling, try hang- gliding, gorging or sailing, take a cruise on a catamaran or a replica of Christopher Columbus' Santa Maria and see Whales & Dolphins, maybe try your hand at deep sea fishing for Marlin & Tuna or catch the twice daily ferry to visit the nearby island of Porto Santo with its 9km golden sandy beach and yet another 18 hole golf course.
If you want to say out till the early hours Funchal also has a growing night-life with many new bars and discos opening and with late winter night time temperatures still in the mid to low teens no need for an overcoat when you are outside. In summer the night-time temperatures do not usually fall much below 20, even at 4 in the morning!
If you need to relax, unwind & recharge your batteries after a long night out there are numerous 5 star spas located in hotels both in Funchal & around the island which are open to non-residents for a moderate one off daily or weekly fee.
With various festivals throughout the year including Carnival (February / March), Flower (April) , Atlantic (June), Jazz (July), Wine (September), Film (November) plus spectacular Christmas decorations (mid Nov - Early Jan) and record breaking new year fireworks (Grandstand views from your balcony and terrace) there is not really a bad time to visit Madeira.

Have just returned from a lovely stay at casa pico musica, Funchal. Delightful apartment with equally delightful owner. Bright and tastefully decorated apartment with all you need for self catering. Lovely large terrace with amazing views of the sea, harbour and town - you can even see the cable cars going up and down. Nice to be in the real town, not the tourist area. Useful small, local shops close by and close to museums and fort. Bit of a climb up from town, but interesting buildings to look at on the way up to take your mind off it! Great base for exploring Funchal and the rest of the island. Response: Many thanks for your review, we hope to be able to welcome you back one day, maybe when there is a bit more fruit on the trees in the garden for you to pick ;-) |
