About the home

A spacious, modern 2 bedded apartment with pool, gardens & views. The apartment is newly decorated & furnished & is bright & sunny. With an attractive, fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washer, tumble dryer and microwave. There is a large lounge/diner with TV and terrace. This is a bright, sunny and spacious property in a prestigious, gated development. The development is secure, private and has allocated underground parking, a lift, pool with loungers and a garden. It is literally only a few minutes downhill walk to all amenities so you don't have to have a car, especially as cabs are cheap. The apartment sits on a short but steep incline affording wonderful views but as with most of Madeira, it is on a hill and you may want to use cabs to get home, as we do. We can arrange airport pick ups and drop offs and cleaners for long term lets. There is lots to do in Madeira including lidos, fishing, golf, big game fishing, mountain safaris, shopping, fine dining, whale & dolphin watching, paragliding, wonderful gardens, lavada walks and much more.

The apartment faces East/West so there is always sun at the back and front. Morning sun in the kitchen and afternoon sun in the living room, bedroom and on the balcony. The apartment is only 8 years old but has been totally redecorated and newly furnished. The front of the apartment overlooks the city bowl and out to sea and the back of the apartment looks out over the gardens and beyond to the city and the sea, including the port, where you can see the cruise ships arrive. We have put in two large single, posturepedic beds so they can be pushed apart or kept together. The bedroom has doors onto the balcony and overlooks the garden.
There is also a blow up bed, suitable for a small child and a cot and high chair for those travelling with an infant.

Further details outdoors:
The complex is secure and modern with underground parking. It is literally only a few minutes walk into the city centre with the market, shops, restaurants & bars about 5 minutes from the apartment - it is a great location.
There is a lovely pool with sun loungers all around and a manicured garden.

We would be grateful if guests could arrange to vacate the apartment by 10a.m. on departure day. This can be extended by arrangement if there are no early arrivals the same day.
We would also ask for direct debit transfers for payment.

The Madeira region

In Madeira there is no need for heating or air conditioning due to the wonderful climate. The climate is stable all year round with a warm, calm sea and little rain. The people of Madeira are very friendly and there is little crime. The island is mountainous and very lush so the scenery is stunning. There are botanical and tropical gardens, waterfalls and wild orchids.

Visit 'The story of Madeira' to get the local history of the island.
There are the botanical and tropical gardens, the basket sleigh rides, levada walks and mountain safaris.
Visit the great houses and quintas of the island.
Sunbathing and relaxing on beaches, lidos and by the pool.
Fabulous shopping available in downtown Funchal with coffee bars on every corner and a daily produce market.
Fine dining is a delight with many fresh fish specialities - also sample the Madeira wines of the island and take a wine tour.
Keen fisherman are catered for with fishing and big game fishing trips around the island.
Marine life can be viewed via boat and sailing trips where you can see whales and dolphins.
Golf and tennis is available close by to Funchal
For the adventurous there are lots of water sports plus paragliding and parasailing.

“Too many negatives with the whole experience” The positives for this apartment are that it is a good size, very well equipped and has nice views from the kitchen and lounge/bedroom balcony. The negatives are: - No air conditioning, not even ceiling fans, before we arrived the owner said this was not neccessary, but in actual fact it is. We actually suffered, as there was a lot of mosquittos and we needed to keep the doors closed, which made the rooms very hot. When we texted the owner (in Hong Kong!) to arrange to have a portable fan, she first suggested that we use repelant and then leave the windows open! She then said she would contact her manager, Joao, to arrage something, nothing happened for two days. So we contacted Joao direct, who said he had not heard from her and he kindly leant us a fan from his own home. - Very flimsey curtains up at the lounge and bedroom windows, therefor easy to see through from the outside when lights on and in the afternoon the rooms got very hot when the sun came round. Would suggest a heavy set of linings for both windows. - The apartment advertises cable TV, but there are no instructions as to how to operate the TV and Digibox, therefore I texted Joao and am still awaiting a response. - There is an extremely steep hill to this apartment from the marina (and I mean steep), which with the temperatures higher than average for this time of year ( sometimes 28 deg.) and humidity sometimes at 75% this made going out during the day and on a night not a pleasant experience. - In future I would always make sure the owner was local, as I am sure some of the above points could have been more readily resolved. Response: Very few apartments in Madeira have airconditioning due to the mild temperatures. These guests did not request airconditioning nor do we advertise that we have it. I understand they had a problem with mosquitos bites & wanted to keep all windows & doors closed, hence calling us in Hong Kong to request we buy them them a fan. We have never encountered mosquito problems there & nor have our neighbours, so this was an unfortunate one off. Without exception all our guests have been gracious & generous with their positive comments, so it is a disappointment that our good feedback has been tarnished due to someone's mosquito bites. This is a semi-tropical island & mosquitos & insects are a normal part of the flora & fauna . Anyone wanting to sit indoors all day, to avoid this, may be better off choosing a hotel or staying in England to holiday. Our apartment is lovely & airy and is on the first floor, so mosquitos have never been an issue for the 6 years we have owned the property.

“Lovely group of apartments well located with all facilities needed.” Great view from balcony and super swimming pool. Rooomy flat with comfy furniture. Takes some finding in a car first time and if walking short but very steep hill to climb. We would certainly revisit.

“Fantastic apartment if you don't mind steep hills” A well appointed apartment situated in the older part of the town with great views across to Funchal harbour. The apartment is in a quiet location with one of the main supermarkets just a few 100m down the road and the chair lift, market etc also very close. All the rooms are tastefully furnished and there is a good size balcony that you can sit out at for your meals or to have a quiet drink in the evenings just watching the cruise ships coming and going into the port. Karen is very helpful when you book and she can organise airport transfers etc.with Juan, her 'helper' in Funchal. We have had 2 excellent stays and would return again. My only word of caution is that there is a very steep hill to get to the apartment from anywhere in the town and the road system is quite difficult to get used to around it (one way systems) so it is quite tricky if you hire a car.
