The Costa del Sol region

The Costa del Sol (coast of the sun) runs for nearly 200km along the Mediterranean Sea in the provinces of Granada, Malaga and Cadiz. Protected from the north wind by a chain of mountains that reaches down to the shoreline in places providing hidden coves and grottos.
The mild climate and scant rainfall produce semi tropical vegetation with palm trees, cypresses, olcander and hibiscus.
This wonderful climate and the proximity of such varied terrain, are undoubtedly amongst the main attractions of the Costa Del Sol. Miles and miles of beautiful, sandy beaches and some of Europe’s most exclusive Marina’s, Benalmadena Marina, Puerto Banus and Puerto Cabopino to name but three.
A series of lively seaside towns, starting with the Principal city of Malaga heading South-West along the coast, through Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro, Estepona, Sabinillas, Manilva, Sotogrande and finally on to Gibraltar
The Fuengirola / Pueblo Lopez area
Pueblo Lopez is a lovely Spanish style urbanisation and has been built in the original Andalusian style and not as a modernistic card-board replica. It is an oasis of peace and tranquillity in Fuengirola, maintaining the tradition of an Andalusian Pueblo. Pueble Lopez has an ideal location: right in the centre of Fuengirola, it is very peaceful but at the same time, 5 minutes walk to the beach and harbour and just 2 minutes walking distance from the main street, bus/ train stations, restaurants, discos, etc.
Restaurant Pueblo Lopez is highly recommended especially in the summer months when you sit out in the quaint and beautiful Spanish style square.
Fuengirola in Malaga has become most famous for its fabulous five mile of sandy beaches. There is a new wider promenade with plenty of palm trees interspersed with colourful flower beds and bench seating, This former fishing village is now a huge holiday town dedicated to satisfying the demands of a thriving year-round tourist trade. It’s a perfect holiday destination for families and also offers a lively and varied night scene to suit everyone.
It offers a vast array of leisure and entertainment facilities all within easy reach of Fuengirola’s finest feature – a seven kilometre long promenade flanking some of the best beaches in southern Spain.
There are two Water Parks (Mijas/Fuengirola & Torremolinos). They are open from May to October.
Fuengirola main local festival/fair is 6th-12th October. Los Boliches another suburb of Fuengirola has its traditional fishing festival/fair is 12th-19th July.
The resort boasts one of the most innovative zoos to be found anywhere in Europe, a wonderful aqua park on the outskirts of town and a yacht marina where you can book a boat safari, learn to scuba dive or simply while away the hours luxury yacht spotting and watching the local fishermen ply their trade.
Besides the inevitable curry houses, pizzerias and British pubs, Fuengirola has many first-class fish restaurants and a plentiful supply of the Costa del Sol’s famous “chiringuitos” – beach bars serving up freshly grilled sardines. A visit to the resort’s world-renowned “Fish Alley”, between the port and La Plaza de Constitucion, is a must for all serious “foodies”, not just fish fans.
When it comes to shopping, once again Fuengirola has it all. The Tuesday street market is one of the biggest and best on the south coast and the Saturday “rastro” (the Spanish equivalent of a flea market) is the place to pick up a bargain. The Parque Miramar shopping mall, on the northern edge of the town, has a vast array of shops including 50 fashion stores.
