Miramar

The Miramar shopping and leisure Complex in Fuengirola opened in early 2004 and offers a serious modern shopping mall in the centre of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, with close to a hundred shops including Primark, Pull & Bear, Dorothy Perkins, KFC and huge supermarket selling everything you need including cutlery, crockery, food, clothes, books, cds, dvds etc. There are also a large range of restaurants, tapas, pizza, paella, and numerous coffee and ice cream shops. On the top floor there is an outside children's play area with trains, boats, bouncy castles etc. and in addition to shopping and eating, Miramar also house a state of the art multiplex, 12 screen Cinema complex, which shows a film in English every day.

Fuengirola

The wonderful holiday resort of Fuengirola is in the centre of Spain's sunny Costa del Sol. With great transport links to other towns, villages and cities of the Costa del Sol and Andalucía, a holiday here is hard to beat. In the resort itself, the sandy beaches seem to go on for ever, stretching for over five miles from Torreblanca to Sohail Castle. The widened Paseo Maritimo, or promenade as we know it in England, makes for a very pleasant walk.

Literally hundreds of bars, restaurants and nightclubs are available to the holidaymaker. Also throughout the resort are many hotel and apartment complexes, ranging from small hostels, to 4* hotels.

The port of Fuengirola still has a fishing fleet and also caters for leisure cruisers, with over two hundred berths available. A ferry service to Benalmadena also leaves from here, as well as boat trips to see the dolphins and also fishing charters.

Fuengirola zoo or Bioparc is well worth a visit. The animals are kept in their natural surroundings and not caged as in other zoos.

Sohail Castle, which is at the extreme western end of the resort, was built by the Moors in the 12th century. Open for visits every day except Mondays. it was restored in 1989 and hosts concerts and festivals in the height of summer.

The resorts waterpark, Parque Aquatico, is in walking distance from Fuengirola town centre. But taking a bus or taxi on a hot summers day would be preferable.

Fuengirola market is the largest on the coast, and is open on Tuesday mornings. It is held on the Recinto Ferial or fair ground, and is in walking distance from both Fuengirola centre and Los Boliches.

On Saturdays there is a flea market on the same site. A smaller Sunday market is held near the Pyramides Hotel from 10am.

Fuengirola is the terminus of the local railway line that connects it to Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Malaga airport and Malaga city every 20 minutes. The fares are very cheap compared to Britain's railways. Journey time from Malaga airport to Fuengirola is just 33 minutes, and from Malaga city only 48 minutes.

The bus station has coastal services to Benalmadena, Coin, Torremolinos, Malaga and Mijas. Also long distance services to Algeciras, Cadiz, Seville, Granada, La Linea, Cordoba and Ronda.

With its five miles of sandy beaches, magnificent views of the Mediterranean and warm, sunny weather all year round, Fuengirola is the perfect place to stay and explore or simply to relax on the beach. Located on the Costa del Sol, Fuengirola is a city with a rich Andalusian flavour which offers an extensive stretch of coastline covered with magnificent beaches.

Possessing a long tourist tradition, this town in the province of Málaga has a wide range of services and infrastructure, which includes golf courses, riding centres, leisure parks, hotel complexes and restaurants, not forgetting a significant calendar of cultural events.

Fuengirola is a haven for those who love water sports, and you'll find golf courses within easy reach of the town. When you are ready for a little culture, visit the History Museum. Its collections focus on the Carthaginians, Moors and Visigoths. Needless to say, a resort such as Fuengirola has a buzzing nightlife.
