Described as England's 'last wilderness', and possibly one of the best kept secrets, the Durham Dales are situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, made up of a wonderful blend of rugged upland, impressive waterfalls, fertile river valleys and wild flower meadows.
Pleasant towns and pretty villages dot the area - the historic town of Barnard Castle lies within easy reach, and boasts castle remains overlooking the town, as well as Bowes Museum. Built as an impressive French-style chateau, the museum houses a magnificant collection of fine and decorative art. Other places of interest are Raby Castle, Killhope Wheel, Beamish, High Force and Hamsterley Forest. The local village of Stanhope is home to the Durham Dales Centre with its tourist information centre.
Hexham is a popular day trip out as well as Durham City with its fabulous Cathedral. You can also be to the Lake District in an hour
Overlooking the River Wear, this superb conversion provides a wonderful holiday retreat. Surrounded by unspoilt countryside and is set in a haven of peace and tranquility.
The pretty village of Frosterley has a local Coop, fish and chip/pizza shop, recreation ground and two local pubs, The Black Bull and The Frosterley Inn, both serving food and are sure to give you a friendly welcome.
Frosterley is located in Weardale, a dale which is very popular to both walkers and cyclists as there are loads of routes which lead you arround this fabulous area and its amazing scenery. It also has a part of the ever popular coast to coast cycle route running through it. The dale is also well located for the ample local golf courses.
The Old Byre is located on the same site as The Gin Gang (sleeps 10)(ref 2577321), The Stables (sleeps 7)(ref 4317522) and River View (Sleeps 4) so in total an overall party of 27 could be accommodated.
