Essex has many historical towns to visit. Colchester is the oldest town in England which as the Roman capital of Britain, was once razed to the ground by warrior queen Boudicca. You can visit the historic Colchester Castle or amuse the children at Colchester Zoo.
The beautiful Constable country is located on the borders of Essex and Suffolk. Here you will find the birthplace of the famous artist John Constable. Flatford Mill on the River Stour is a lovely place to visit.
The Frinton on Sea area
Frinton on Sea is one of the few unspoilt seaside resorts. The beach has been awarded the Quality Coast Award 2008 and is recommended in The Marine Conservation Good Beach Guide 2009. There is a large greensward, and rows of Victorian style beach huts. There are miles of lovely coastal walks.
Frinton's Connaught Avenue boasts an array of restaurants and local shops. The restaurants cater for all tastes - Italian, Indian, Chinese, traditional English, Fish and Chips. As well as clothes and gift shops, there are some lovely shops offering local produce - butchers, bakers, delicatessen - and a traditional style sweet shop. There is also a pub and wine bar.
You can easily visit the nearby Walton on the Naze or Clacton on Sea, for a more commercial beach experience.

This place is gorgeous, well-maintained, and really close to the beach. We were a group of 19 friends looking for a weekend away not too far out of London and The Beach House was perfect. The town itself (Frinton) doesn't have much going on but you don't need it to with a house like this. The Orangery is great for games and chatting, the dining room fit us all in and the bedrooms were clean and very comfortable. Good marks for the shower and hot water situation too - with 19 showering it was impressive they all stayed hot and high pressure! Definitely recommended for families or friends. |
