About the home

The property is an old farmhouse with vineyard in the heart of the old part of Frigiliana village. The house is at the top of the village so the views are fabulous. Entry is from the cobbled street with entrance hall, kitchen/dining room one double bedroom and shower/wc.

A rockface lines the stairs up to half landing utility room. Stair continues up to large lounge with views on two aspects with three windows. Bathroom/WC and twin room are additionally on this floor. Stairs continue up to garden entrance and a further twin bedroom with view over pool. Stairs continue up to large roof terrace with panoramic views south to the village and the Med and north to the mountains.

For sun lovers the house has sunshine for the whole day and there is plenty of shaded areas and a hammock for chilling out.

Further details indoors:
The house is built into the hills' rock face thus insuring that the house remains generally cool in summer.
The ground floor remains coolest and the kitchen was replaced last year. Rooms on upper floors have windows to both sides and are light and spacious.

Further details outdoors:
The house and grounds have a lovely but unusual layout. The vast roof terrace is great for summer dining with its stunning views. There is a garden that runs to the back and side of the property with the pool and sundeck with shower at the side of the property.

This house and its grounds are unique in Frigiliana as it benefits from a village location but with garden and pool all within a short walk from the many village restaurants.

Further details

Car access to the house is via a small mountain road which brings you right to the pool entrance to the house. Parking is possible on this road but not recommended. There is plenty of parking available in the village.

Conditions

We are flexible on departure times as long as there is not a turn around on the same day when departure must be by 10am to allow for the house to be prepared for the next guests.

Frigiliana is blessed with one of the best climates in Europe. The temperature rarely drops below 15c and in our experience you can sunbathe all year round with the daytime temperatures generally warmer than anywhere else in Europe.

With the new coastal road Grenada is now less than one hours drive. Seville - 2 hrs, Malaga - 30 minutes.

There is a vast shopping area in Velez Malaga - 15 minutes drive. We like to support the village shops by buying our general food and drinks from them. There are however many supermarkets in Nerja which is just 5 minutes drive as are the beaches etc.

The Frigiliana / Old town/Moorish quarter area

The medieval Frigiliana is one of Andalucia's famous pueblo blancos (white villages). It was also the last bastion of the Moors in Spain and the scene of their last battles. Scenes of these are depicted in decorative tiled panels around the old village.

The reason Frigliana was of strategic importance is the very reason that draws its admirers today - the maze of narrow lanes are built on a steep hillside, giving fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and in days gone by - a strategic position difficult to attack.

When the village began renovation in the 1960's, it was decided to make the narrow streets car-free and with the exception of an arterial road running through the centre the village has kept this policy.

The result is a charming network of narrow white streets and hidden courtyards filled with flowers and potted plants. In short, a village with so much character that its like Venice without the canals.

“Fab location, all day sun in the terrace - we hope to return!” I recently stayed here along with my mum, dad, auntie and her partner. The accommodation is set over three levels inside, so everybody got their own privacy. The living area is large and light with comfy seating. So if it does decide to rain.. Which it did one afternoon, we simply opened up the french windows and enjoyed a G+T! The Kitchen area is clean with all the appliances and utensils we needed. Up on the terrace by the pool, the views down into Frigilania are second to none! And with sunshine all day this was the ideal base to just soak up the rays or take a dip in the nice pool (very private) If you went up another level onto the upper terrace (this is where had breakfast and a vino at night) there were more spectacular views. As the villa is right at the top of Frigilania, to get down to the bars there were many steps, however this didn't bother us and it was nice to get a bit of exercise after eating way too much tapas down in the village! (App 5 minute walk to the centre) We would recommend La Esquina for fab food and great service! Although there is no parking at the house, you can take the narrow track to drop any shopping and bags off, before parking down in the village and walking back up to the house. In all, you couldn't get a better located base for a holiday in Frigilania!
