About the home

We selected the material for the house ourselves and did so very carefully as we wanted to maintain a relationship with the environment. The aim was to make the houses comfortable with a natural look and feel, in order to harmonise with the National Park. The house is surrounded by olive groves and pine woods; from time to time you may see squirrels, foxes, rabbits, mountain goats, wild boar, partridge, eagles, and other wild creatures.

La Reserva is beautifully equipped and has everything you need to feel completely at home. It is a pleasure for us to see our visitors come here from many other countries and enjoy the town of Frigiliana, our kind climate, and the area´s tranquillity.

During your stay we hope you come to love the area as much as we do, and see some of the beauty of the Sierra Almijara. This pretty villa is to be found within the National Park area of the Sierra Tejada mountains, whilst set in an elevated position and accessed by a steep concreted track, the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and coastline make the short journey worthwhile.

La Reserva has been built by the owners Javier and Rosario with attention to detail and a lovely, rustic style décor throughout. A covered terrace provides a shady retreat from the midday sun and offers a relaxing setting to enjoy outside dining whilst admiring the views.A charming Andalusian property, which whilst having full modern facilities retains all its original features.

It has a lounge with comfortable rustic furniture, an open fireplace, a dining room, two bedrooms (one with double bed , one with twin beds). A shower room and a well-equipped kitchen.

Facilities include a fridge-freezer, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, satellite TV ( English channels) and DVD player, CD player and radio. Air conditioning. A good selection of English books and CDs is also provided.

La Reserva is situated just below the Sierra Almijara National Park and has pretty views of the valley down to the sea from its private swimming pool and sun terraces. Although the villa was built in 2001, like El Torin above, it has been beautifully designed with the use of antique doors and windows, beams and antique tiles.

The two cottages are completely separate. yet located conveniently next door to each other so could be sold for larger families or friends. In between the two houses is an olive grove and the surrounding countryside is ideal for walkers.

We would like our customers to know that the road leading to La Reserva is approx 4km of mainly unmade road until you reach the house. The best route is via Nerja town centre . It is practically flat but it takes 15 minutes. However, once you arrive you will appreciate the fantastic location,the stunning views of sea and mountains and the peace and tranquillity that this affords.

Here you are fortunate enough to be only 100 metres away from the National Park of Sierra Almijara. When it had finally been decided that this area would be a National Park, we realized this would be an ideal place to build our two houses. Thanks to its status and the difficult terrain, this beautiful area hasn’t been ruined by masses of holiday homes.

The Costa del Sol region

Our village, given its situation between the sea and the mountains, offers many possibilities for walking along different routes where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic views.

With our Almijara Mountains in the background you will truly feel as though you are walking in paradise.

The Frigiliana / Rio Chilar area

The property is 3 kms from the seaside town of Nerja and 3 kms from the charming old village of Frigiliana.

Sports:- In this village we have a gymnasium and semi Olympic size swimming pool. There is also a covered sports complex where there are always different sporting activities taking place. All this is available to the public at very reasonable prices.

Culture:- Even though this is a small village, we are proud of having had a long and great history, with visible origins from the Neolithic period. Frigiliana has a small but very interesting museum, with various relics and artefacts which were found in an ancient burial place situated on a small hill on a private property only 1km from the centre.

This recently opened museum, which you will find in the beautiful Apero, is now the cultural centre of Frigiliana where is also housed the municipal library and Tourism Office, and in a building of fascinating architectural merit we also have a gallery and art exhibition centre, again open to the public.

Of particular interest is the collection of mural tiles which you can see as you walk along the old streets. As you follow each of these you can get to see some of the history of our village (in particular the Battle of the Penon), depicted in a most original way.

Should you wish to organise a longer excursion, in 90 minutes you could be visiting the Alhambra Palace in Granada, or in a couple of hours you could be at the Mezquita in Cordoba, or visiting the beautiful and fascinating city of Seville.

For almost every season there are typical and popular fiestas, where visitors can join in the festivities with the local people.

- 3rd of May Day of the Crosses
- From 8th to 13th June is the Feria and Romeria of our patron saint St Anthony
- In July we have important musical concerts
- August: popular dance shows from different parts of the world.
- December: traditional Midnight Mass, and New Year's Eve is celebrated in a wonderful, friendly atmosphere in the church square.
- Easter Week one can witness many processions through the village, with all the traditional splendour of this important religious festival.

When you wish to eat you can enjoy a great variety of dishes served in our very many restaurants, where you can discover a quality and excellence which you will never forget.

Que tal?!!

It was our pleasure to meet you both and stay in your beautiful La Reserva.

Our flight home was fine thanks, but we couldn't believe the snow when we arrived in Edinburgh! A total shock after the lovely weather over the last few days in Andalucia.

We really enjoyed our holiday in La Reserva, it was just what we needed, totally tranquil and peaceful. The views from the villa are breath taking. We loved the position of the villa, away from it all in the Parque Natural, but within easy access to Nerja and Frigiliana. (we were lucky enough to see the eagles you mentioned swooping through the valley one afternoon! ). La Reserva had everything we needed, it is beautifully furnished and the internet was a bonus for Kenny who can't be far from his laptop!!, the terrace and gardens were superb for that all important sunbathing! (We wish we were driving along that road to the villa tonight! as we are both very sad to be back in Edinburgh).

Thank you again for the villa rental and your kindness, we look forward to meeting and renting from you in the very near future.

Our family have just returned from a great holiday at La Rerserva. This is our second stay at La Reserva. The house is beautiful, very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Fabulous views and a splendid location. Javier is a very welcoming and friendly host. This is the best family holiday we have ever had and the children aged 7 and 9 and ourselves wanted to stay forever! See you again soon Javier.

We have just spent Christmas and New Year at La Reserva,and had a wonderful time. The panoramic views from the cottage and the terrace were fantastic. The secluded setting is a perfect and tranquil hideaway yet within a few minutes drive of the town and beaches. Any of the properties owned by Javier and Rosario are above average and they look after their clients so well they become your friends. We have holidayed at both Hazilla de Raya and La Reserva for many years, and always look forward to going back. We would highly recommend these properties. The first time we stayed at Arcos de la Almona, we knew we had found a very special place and very special people. Javier and Rosario made us welcome from the first moment and their children Claudia and Nicolas are charming. We have stayed at Arcos many times since (at different times of the year) and Dachita at Christmas on one occasion, and have visited all the other houses. The properties are of excellent standard and the hospitality provided by Javier and Rosario is outstanding. We have just come back from a wonderful two weeks at Arcos and are counting the weeks until we return!
