The Cornwall region
Pronounced Foy to rhyme with Joy! This historic coastal town is located on the south coast of Cornwall between Looe and Mevagissey and is also a commercial seaport where china clay is exported.
Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Fowey has much to offer with something for everyone. It is a natural harbour and is a haven for yachtsmen - Regatta Week in August is a must for sailing enthusiasts!
There are many beautiful walks from a gentle stroll along the Esplanade on a warm summer's evening to hiking over the cliffs to seek out secluded beaches - or catch the popular passenger ferry to Polruan and follow the Hall Walk to Boddinick (where you can obtain refreshments at The Old Ferry Inn) and then catch the car ferry back across the river.
Fowey is a very special place and has been home to many famous people, most notably Daphne Du Maurier spent most of her life here and many of her stories and books were inspired and based on local life.
Award winning restaurants, publs, cafes and shops to cater for all tastes and desires are nearby. There is also a small supermarket, fishmongers, butchers, chemist, post office etc - so there really is no need to use the car!
The Daphne Du Maurier Festival is held in May of each year - a sparkling 10 days of talks, concerts, guided walks and free entertainment.
Regatta Week in August is one of Britain's premier sailing events!
The Eden Project, Monkey Sanctuary and Charlestown Shipwreck & Heritage Centre are just an example of the various attractions that a just a short drive away.

"a joy to be in fowey!"
We have stayed at seashells a couple of times now and always had a lovely time.
Spacious bedrooms with versatile accommodation (twin or double bed) in second room so perfect for two couples or a family of 5! Nice cosy feel thats very homely so you dont feel worried about kicking off your shoes and putting your feet up! Have visited in cold weather when the roaring log fire was a welcome retreat and have also stayed in the summer sunshine and barbequed in the patio garden. Fowey is a lovely little town fabulous for strolling around. Would recommend a breakfast at pinky murphys cafe and dinner in any of the numerous pubs in town all serving great food and a warm welcome. Must do's include a walk to readymony cove, taking the little ferry boat across to polruan and doing the "hall walk" stopping off at the ferry inn before catching the car ferry back across the river. For the more sporting, hire some canoes from in the town and row up and down the river for a few hours!
