POLTOR COTTAGE (recently built in traditional Cornish stone) is a detached cottage set in tranquil rolling green countryside overlooking St Austell Bay and a mining World Heritage Site on which there is an historical engine house ruin. The pretty port of Fowey is nearby where the annual (Daphne du Maurier) Festival is held in May each year. Par, Carlyon, Charlestown beaches and other coves are also close by. The North Cornwall Atlantic coast is within easy reach. For golfers there are excellent 9 and 18 hole golf courses. For "green" botanical enthusiasts, Eden Project is approximately 4 miles distant and just the job for inclement weather under the domes and many other enjoyable landscaped gardens nearby are open to the public. The large Cornish undercover market is open at weekends and Wednesdays.

POLTOR COTTAGE, although in a peaceful rural setting, is easily accessible by car from the A390. It has a downstairs open plan layout of sitting room/sun/lounge/kitchen/diner - doors lead out to a large fairly sheltered patio area overlooking the garden, countryside, Austen engine house ruin and sea. There is a downstairs bedroom with twin linked 3' beds (Superking) and an ensuite shower room; also a utility room with outside access. Upstairs there is a bedroom with twin linked beds (king/2 singles) and bathroom with views over the sea and beautiful countryside. Double glazed throughout. ENCLOSED PARKING 1 possibly 2 cars. Wi-fi weather dependent!

The West Country region

Fowey, Bodmin Moor, Tywardreath are places well known to those who have read author Daphne du Maurier's books.

The south coastline boasts many coves, beaches and cliff walks but the north coastline is also easily accessible.

There are many good golf courses.

Boat trips and sailing (lessons) are all close by.

Cornwall is renowned for its mining heritage and landmarks can be seen around the countryside.

If you just want to chill out and relax there is the peace and tranquility of the countryside on the doorstep.

For the more adventurous there are many other places to see and activities to do if time permits.

Weather of course is unpredictable but there are undercover activities that can be done on wet days. April has a fairly good record of sunshine!

There are National Trust Houses to visit and for wet weather Trago Mills and the Cornish Market World are under cover shopping places.

Daphne du Maurier Festival based around Fowey in May with many famous artists appearing.

Plenty of restaurants and good pubs in the vicinity. Many of the well known TV chefs have restaurants in Cornwall.

The Eden Project is just a couple of miles away and there are numerous other lovely gardens to visit in the area including the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

There are some good cycle tracks in Cornwall where bikes can be hired. Special cycle tours have been created from old railway tracks from Bodmin (Camel Trail)

"Delightful Gem"

We booked at the last minute & our dates of Monday to Monday were accommodated, which was brilliant. All the paperwork & payment was handled efficiently & quickly, & Pauline was most helpful before our arrival. Following her directions was an added bonus & the cottage was very well placed for our week's stay of exploring south Cornwall. On arrival our every need had been thought of - kettle boiled, cream tea all ready & breakfast for the following morning. There were many small details that made the stay extra special - recommended places to eat, brochures on places to visit, wine & milk in the fridge, crisps & chocolates, pocket travel tissues, shower gel and even slippers. We couldn't have asked for more. The two sets of French doors onto the garden with sea views were wonderful, & the patio had furniture to suit all occasions. The cottage is very comfortable, well laid out & nothing appears to be too much trouble. Pauline was only ever a phone call away to any query, and we felt that looking after this gem of a cottage whilst there was the least we could do in return. Highly recommended and would certainly return.

Thank you so much for your very kind review and generous remarks about your recent time spent at Poltor Cottage and thank you too for your care of the cottage whilst there. It is of great value when guests write a supportive review. I do hope you will both be able to visit again.

"A great find"

Polter cottage was exactly as described. Apon arrival we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. There was a unexpected surprise of a cream tea, chocolates and lots of little extra scattered around the cottage. Very good value for money. Would recommend to friends and family.

Thank you for your nice review. Such a shame your few days coincided with such freak stormy weather.

"cute and cosy cottage we loved it!"

much thought has gone into ensuring guests at this cottage are comfortable and that includes canine ones too! Lovely cream tea welcomed us and lots of other extras we found were a delight! Lots to do close by and rest of cornwall was easy to get to. You will not be disappointed if you book this charming cottage.

Thank you SO much taking the time to write such a kind review. I am pleased that you all enjoyed your holiday in Cornwall and hope you will spend time here again.
