About the home

Blanches is a coastal classic. A dream house and cottage with glorious sea views, set in a peaceful and secluded location in 2.5 acres of sheltered, south-facing gardens and surrounded by unspoilt countryside. Lying between Looe and Fowey, the spectacular National Trust coastline is a 10 minute walk from the garden down an exquisite, almost private valley. Lansallos Cove, an ideal swimming beach and perfect for children, is also within easy walking distance. The fishing village of Polperro and the vibrant port of Fowey are a short drive away.

Blanches Windsor provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to nine people, with a farmhouse kitchen, expansive living room and hallway, 5 bedrooms (one downstairs), 2 bathrooms and an additional WC. Outside there are lovely sitting out areas overlooking the valley and sea, several terraced lawns and lots of secret gardens to explore. For large groups, we can accommodate a further five people next door in Blanches Meadow, the original character cottage.

We include a Cornish cream tea on arrival, free wireless broadband, delicious natural spring water and complimentary access to Fowey Hall Hotel’s luxurious pool. Out of season we offer discounted rates for couples with additional guests charged at £50 per week.

Blanches would suit nature lovers, bird-watchers, walkers (including the four-legged variety), gardeners and those who simply wish to get away from it all while staying in a well-equipped family home. The properties are cosy in winter with log fires and on nature's door for summer. You might see a deer in the gardens.

Outside there are lovely sitting out areas overlooking the valley and sea, several terraced lawns and lots of secret gardens to explore. We include free use of the swimming pool at the Fowey Hall Hotel spa. There are tennnis courts overlooking the sea at Looe and open to visitors.

Blanches Windsor and Meadow are adjoining properties and they share the 2.5 acres of gardens. They are, however, separate houses with their own entrances and their own sitting out areas.

The Fowey / Lansallos area

Fowey is a vibrant sailing town set around a beautiful estaury. Just across the Bodinnick Ferry you will find magical country lanes and beaches to explore. Most of the coastline between Fowey and Polperro is owned and protected by the National Trust. Lansallos is a dreamy hamlet set around a 14th Century church with a smugglers' track to the beach. Blanches is one of a small handful of private houses in the area with a view of the sea and its position at the head of a beautiful, almost private valley is second to none. We immediately fell in love with it and if you come you will see why!

The nearest airports are Newquay and Plymouth while Exeter and Bristol also serve the South West. Liskeard train station has a regular train service from London and other major stations. You can get a fast train to Exeter and hire a car from the station if you prefer. The nearest channel ferry terminal is Plymouth. We will provide detailed travel information on confirmation of a booking.

“This is a wonderful place for a family holiday” We loved the houses (adjacent), the huge and well planted garden, the peaceful rural setting and the view down to the sea. There is a very nice atmosphere here - hard to put your finger on but very definitely the case. With a large extended family, including six grandchildren aged 6 and under, everything worked perfectly and the feeling of the place was very relaxed. This may have something to do with the fact that the houses are geared up for children and obviously welcome them rather than tolerate them. Just to pick out some of the delights - separate accommodation for aged grandparents (Blanches Meadow) and any others who didn't want to be woken at crack of dawn; large table for family meals and ditto outside tables; very well equipped kitchen; sandpit, in use within minutes of arrival, lots of outdoor games equipment which everyone made full use of; wonderful garden for children to run wild in; lovely coastal walks (3-year-old managed Llansallos beach back to the house - if you go you'll see that this was quite an achievement). Once ensconced we didn't really feel like going anywhere but if you need food Pelynt has a large, rather oddly laid out Spar (you'll see what I mean) and an excellent butcher. The one frustration was the lack of fishmongers (what is going on?) in the area. We eventually found one in Looe. Response: Many thanks for the review. We're delighted you love Blanches as much as we do. Good news for 2012: Waitrose now delivers (as well as Tesco) - a great help when providing for the masses. There is an excellent fishmonger in Fore Street, Fowey as well as the one you found near the fish market in Looe... Lastly, we find the easiest way to get small children to the beach is to drive (2 minutes) to the NT car park in Lansallos and walk down the gentle Smugglers' track past the church. Lansallos Cove is a lovely sand/shingle beach with a waterfall and stream to play in and it's good for swimming. Well worth it!
