The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall, with its impressive cliffs, dramatic coastline and sheltered bays is one of Great Britain’s favourite holiday destinations. The history of some of Cornwall’s towns and villages go back hundreds of years. Whether you want to relax on the beach, go on beautiful walks or potter around market towns, Cornwall is the place to go.
The county capital of Truro boasts a magnificent cathedral which is a mix of old and new styles. This contrast can also be found in the towns Georgian streets where international retailers along with local family-run shops ply their trade.
You can have any type of holiday in Cornwall (except perhaps skiing!). If you want to sun yourself on one of Cornwall’s 300 beaches, take a walk along one of the numerous coastal or inland walking routes, plunder the market stalls of local towns or just relax in the countryside (although you’re never more than 16 miles from the sea!), Cornwall is the holiday for you.
The Fowey / Golant area
Fowey (pronounced "Foy") is rich with history along with being a commercial harbour. It is now over a mile long along one side of the River Fowey. There is a frequent ferry to take you to the village of Polruan across the other side.
Fowey is a determined area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which make the cliff-top hikes all the more enjoyable. But there are also less rigorous wanders along the sea-front for those just looking to soak up a bit of sea air.
In Fowey there is an extensive range of shops with local produce and galleries displaying a large amount of local pieces of art. There are very nice restaurants for a luxery feel but also a fish and chip shop, cream tea cafes and a pint available for those who like the good ol' British sea side.
