The Brittany region

The area is known as the Emerald coast due to the grassy clifftops and lush fields, the sea often takes on a turquoise or jade colour. It is a picturesque coastline with rugged cliffs and sandy bays. The East of the area surrounding the bay of Le Mont St Michel is rolling countryside with wild life in abundance, traditionally farming is the main industry.

The local farmers produce much of the local produce including dairy products, cider, fresh meat and vegetables. Pretty hamlets and small villages are filled with flowers during the summer months, many hold fetes and festivals to celebrate the harvest during August.

The larger towns of Fougeres , Dinan and St Malo provide historic places of interest of a region steeped in history. The city of Rennes, the capital of Brittany, is 40mins drive away.

The nearest village is St Ouen Le Rouerie about 3KM away, it is a small village with a bar, a restaurant/ Pizzeria and a small shop. About 7km away is St Brice En Cogles, a small town with restaurants, bars, shops and a large supermarket. There is also a new indoor swimming pool.

The villages hold events throughout the year including the Fete de Moisson in August and the nearby village of Sougal holds an annual Goose Fair in July.

"the loveliest gîte in Brittany"

This is by far the best gîte we ever stayed in. Surrounded by nature, yet not far away from many beautiful towns and places: le Mont Saint Michel, Cancale, Fougères, etc. The cottage itself is comfo… More

"Excellent-once again!"

This was our 3rd visit to this cottage and as a Travel Agent myself, I would highly recommend this property. We stayed from 20 - 26 August 2013.
The property itself is spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfy and overall standard of accommodation and facilities excellent. The garden is so peaceful and the children love the animals!
It is in an ideal spot for a peaceful holiday but close enough to beaches and towns to go and explore.
We visited nearby Villecartier and my Daughter who was 12 loved the tree walking experience and the electric boats on the lake. Fougeres and Le Mont St Michel are also worth a visit as is Rennes.
David and Christine are on hand should you need anything and are always friendly and helpful.
Keep up the good work we will be back!!

"home from home"

Warm and friendly service throughout, very helpful and informative, genuine lovely people. The property was excellently decorated and fully equipped with high levels of cleanliness. Set in a peaceful location yet only a short drive to shops bars and restaurants. Beautifully kept gardens and had great fun with the collection of animals.

"A splendid gite"

Following a week in the vendee, we were keen to stay in an area that offered variety and this accommodation proved to be ideal. With a very young family , the gite provided a comfortable stay. Our children loved the attic room and star gazing and they managed the stairs with no problems. The property has been wonderfully restored and modernised, accommodating 2 bathrooms and adequate sleeping for 5 persons. It was comfortable and clean and adjoining the property's owners was an added bonus, as we pleased with the warm welcome from our English hosts, David and Christine. My children adored the garden and playing hide & seek in the grounds. They were particularly delighted to discover chickens, goats and ducks at the end of the garden! the area is brilliantly situated near to all the main tourist spots and beaches. We enjoyed the train trip and castle in Fougeres, horse trek in the nearby reserve in Villecartier, alligator bay near Le Mont St Michel, eating seafood al fresco in cancale and having the option of a peaceful morning in our gite. if you are looking for a good base for touring, look no further! Thank you David and Christine
