The Scottish Highlands region

Natural and untouched, a place that has been unspoilt by the demands of tourism or commercial interests, the Highlands of Scotland is one of Britain's most beautiful and stunning holiday destinations. Here you will find Britain's highest mountain ranges, miles of open countryside and a multitude of lochs; all this and an untouched coastline with picturesque coves and pristine clean beaches. This is the place for a great ‘outdoors' holiday with plenty of activities for all ages; including wonderful walking and cycling, canoeing, fishing, golf and sailing, beach combing and wildlife watching. The list goes on. There are also lots of historical sites and ancient towns to discover in the Highlands which you'll find throughout the region as you travel along its quiet and beautiful country roads.

Fort William

The rugged and dramatic countryside of this region of the Scotland was one of the principal reasons why it was used during World War II as a training area for Commandos. A fitting memorial to these daring troops can be found in the nearby village of Spean Bridge, located approximately seven miles away. The sublime surrounding countryside is quite simply Scotland at its best. The whole area is peppered with beautiful trails which will leave both mountain-bilkers and hikers spoilt for choice. The local area has been regularly used to provide locations for both TV and film productions- an obvious indication of the quality of the landscape here. The area is of course famous for outdoor pursuits and a good number are available within the estate area via Achmacarry Country Pursuits. The much-loved outdoor capital of the Highlands- Fort William- is close by and this operates an extensive all-year-round programme of outdoor activities. Highland recommended to both adrenaline junkies and the less energetic is a leisurely gondola ride to the summit of the Ben Nevis Mountain Range. The views are fantastic and visitors can admire these further from the mountain-top restaurant
