The Scottish Highlands region

Natural and untouched, a place that has been unspoilt by the demands of tourism or commercial interests, the Highlands of Scotland is one of Britain's most beautiful and stunning holiday destinations. Here you will find Britain's highest mountain ranges, miles of open countryside and a multitude of lochs; all this and an untouched coastline with picturesque coves and pristine clean beaches. This is the place for a great ‘outdoors' holiday with plenty of activities for all ages; including wonderful walking and cycling, canoeing, fishing, golf and sailing, beach combing and wildlife watching. The list goes on. There are also lots of historical sites and ancient towns to discover in the Highlands which you'll find throughout the region as you travel along its quiet and beautiful country roads.

Fort William

This region of Scotland hinges on the busy and vibrant town of Fort William and is a well established centre for an astonishing range of outdoor activities. The walking and climbing found here for example, are fantastic and as the Ben Nevis mountain range is an easy drive away, why not take the opportunity to conquer Britain's highest mountain? Highly recommended and an amazing way to penetrate deep in to the very heart of the mountains is the spectacular gondola ride up the side of the mighty Aanoch Mor. This forms part of the Ben Nevis range and those who reach the summit will be rewarded with incredible views and the chance of a hot meal at the mountain-top restaurant! Another interesting attraction and a further great way of seeing the landscape is the famous steam train which travels between Fort William and Mallaig. This was used to portray the Hogwart's Express in the Harry Potter films. Boat trips can be taken from Mallaig over to the mystical islands of Skye, Muck, Eigg and Rhum. Nearby is the holiday town of Spean Bridge. This has a number of first class food and drink outlets and a nine hole golf course which offers all visitors a warm welcome. History lovers should seek out the museum and famous Commando memorial in Spean Bridge dedicated to all special forces personnel who trained there during World War II.
