The Scottish Highlands region

The Scottish Highlands region is known for its outstanding natural beauty and wide range of activities to suit all ages and abilities.

The cottage is situated in the Lochaber region of the Highlands, an area with stunning views and plenty of opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Year round holiday opportunities are possible in this part of the Highlands - skiing in winter, and hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, golfing and much more for the rest of the year.

Lochaber Cottage is ideally suited for easy day trips to Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Glenfinnan, Loch Ness, Corrour, Kingussie and the beaches at Morar, to see some of Scotland's best visitor spots.

As one of Scotland's premiere tourist destinations Lochaber also presents an excellent variety of food and drink, shopping opportunities, history and culture.

Fort William

Just 10 miles from Lochaber Cottage, the town of Fort William is known as the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK.' In the other direction the Cairngorms National Park is nearby. Skiing at the Nevis Range is 15 minutes drive away, with the UK's highest mountain (Ben Nevis) just one of many easily accessible "munros". There are enough golf courses in the area to come for a week and play a different course each day. The Lochaber area is rich in opportunities for cycling and hill-walking, whether you are looking for a family outing or a serious challenge.

Lochaber is one of the best locations for fishing and kayaking in Europe, plays host to a range of adventure sports and has the world's largest indoor ice climbing wall nearby.

Although close to a wide range of activities, Lochaber Cottage itself enjoys a quiet location to get away from it all.

Lochaber Cottage is situated within Glen Roy, close to the famous geological Parallel Roads, which are part of the Glen Roy national nature reserve. Sit on the cottage terrace and watch the sun go down over the mountains or step outside the gate to walk or cycle along the well-maintained track for miles into the hills.

The nearby village of Roy Bridge provides a shop, cafe, pub and restaurant and is a pleasant walk away along a quiet Forestry Commission road.

Thanks for the review! Just to clarify, the shops in Roy Bridge are an hour round trip if you walk. The shop in Roy Bridge is 1.5 miles from the cottage so just a few minutes away by car if you want to save time to get the shop.
