Colonial Pointe Villa
House | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Welcome to Colonial Pointe Villa, our vacation home in South Fort Myers, on the beautiful gulf coast of Southwest Florida. The house was a former model home for the neighbourhood and is furnished and appointed to the highest standards, with its own private pool overlooking a lake. It's a family home as well as a rental house, and we continually upgrade the furnishings and fittings for everyone's enjoyment.
Colonial Pointe is within easy reach of all kinds of things to do. It's just 15 minutes from the glorious west coast islands of Sanibel and Fort Myers Beach, with their beautiful white-sands. Surrounded by great golf courses, and with a wide selection of local shops and restaurants close at hand.
Fort Myers is a great place for a vacation, for all the family. You can just chill out on the Island beaches or around the pool if that's your thing. Or if you want things to do, there's everything from golf, boating, fishing, seeing fantastic wildlife in its natural habitat, searching for tropical shells, para sailing, jet skiing, scuba diving and lots more.

The Florida region
Colonial Point is located in South Fort Myers, on Florida's Gulf Coast, just south of the frost line. It's just 20 minutes from nearby South West Florida Regional Airport (RSW), so very easy to get to.
The area is perfect for any style of vacation. If you want peace and relaxation, the islands and their beaches are perfect for that. Beautiful white sand with space for everyone, even at holiday periods, and warm water to splash around in to your heart's content. This part of Florida is less developed than most, and still has many wild places where you can walk for miles and enjoy the scenery & wildlife. You would never dream you are in the same state as Disney world & Miami.
But if you or your family need more to do, this area is perfect for that too, for adults and children alike. There plenty of places to go to occupy enquiring minds, and you can boat & fish to your heart’s content.
Fort Myers Beach is where the organised beach sport is - para sailing, volleyball, etc. And within a 2 hour drive there is much more than you could ever do in one vacation - the Everglades, Busch Gardens, Sarasota and Naples, wonderful aquaria, Arcadia's rodeo, and top class sport aplenty.
South west Florida's beaches are lovely. The sand is fine & white, and the water is warm for most of the year. The shells are spectacular too. Our favourite beaches are Lighthouse, on Sanibel island; the beach at the end of Captiva, and Lovers Key. Barefoot Beach at Bonita is great too. These are wild beaches, with no organised activities, many of them with little or no development around them. You get great sunsets from almost any beach in the area.
If you want something more lively, perhaps with more organised activities, then Fort Myers Beach may be more for you. It has all sorts of things going on at holiday & vacation times: volleyball, sand castle building contests, parasailing, windsurfing, etc. Just about any form of water-based activity is catered for.
The dining in the area covers the entire range from all the expected family favourites to haute cuisine. Just drive down any big road & you'll find an Arizona Pizza, IHOP, Ruby Tuesday, McDonalds, Burger King, etc. We especially love the local seafood, and on our own website you will find a selection of restaurants we particularly like.
If you want to go a bit further afield, here are some ideas for day trips that we have particularly enjoyed:
- Take a boat trip from Salty Sam's Marina aboard the Star of Orion, a beautiful yacht, daytime or sunset.
- Visit the Ringling Museum, or Mote aquarium, and take a boat trip on Sarasota Bay.
- Naples - walk on the pier, watch the fishermen and spot the dolphins. Visit Tin City, shop at an upscale mall, and have lunch at Venetian Bay.
- St Petersburg - visit St Pete's Pier or the Dali museum, and maybe go down to Fort de Soto's beautiful beach.
- Everglades - drive down to Everglades City and Chokoloskee, then take a boat trip round the 10,000 islands.
- Also in the Everglades, go to Shark Valley & take the tram tour
- Take an air boat ride on Lake Trafford, Myakka River State Park or in the Everglades.
- Spend the day on Sanibel & Captiva ... start at Lighthouse beach, walk around the tip of the island looking for dolphins in the surf, go to Ding Darling wildlife reserve & take the tram tour, then drive up to Andy Rosse Lane on Captiva & have a drink & maybe eat at the Mucky Duck, watching the sun go down.
You get wonderful sunsets of the west coast of Florida, and there's no better place to watch them than Bunche Beach, just 15 minutes from the house. Take a deckchair - the locals do
Lakes Park is within a 5 minute drive of the house, and it's a real gem. You can hire a family-sized Surrey or bikes. There's also a well equipped playground, fountain play park, picnic areas, ice cream shop and a fun miniature train ride. The park puts on a show at holiday periods (it has its very own Easter Bunny, for instance!), and parts are sometimes lit after dark. It also has fresh water lakes, with canoes & water bikes for hire
The wildlife in Florida is fantastic, and it's everywhere, not just in the major wildlife reserves. From the house, you will see herons, osprey, wood storks and egrets (and perhaps the odd frog, snake & maybe even a small alligator occasionally in the lake!).
Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is only about 15 minutes from the house, and is a great wild place to see alligators & birdlife.
There are places further afield that are well worth a visit too. Choose from the Everglades, Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve on Sanibel, Corkscrew Swamp Preserve down by Naples, or maybe Lake Trafford near Imokalee. The Everglades and Lake Trafford have air boats, as well as more alligators than you can imagine. Ding Darling has a tramcar. Corkscrew is a board walk. And Shark Valley in the Everglades has a tram tour. Alternatively you can bike the Shark Valley loop, but be aware that there are lots of alligators!
Dolphins sometimes play in the surf on the beaches. It can happen anywhere, but Sanibel's Lighthouse beach is particularly good - spend an hour there at the tip of the island, and you're almost guaranteed to see them. And if you go on a boat trip, they will often play in the wake. If you're there in the winter, the amazing manatees come into the warm waters of the Caloosahatchee River (near the FPL power plant).

"Great Family Rental"
We are a family of 4 with 2 young kids under 3 yrs of age. The pool in the back was beautiful and the set up was great for young kids. The kids room was very quiet so the adults could enjoy their evenings after the little ones were sleeping. It was also conveniently located close to the beautiful beach and fabulous shopping. We can't wait to go back.

We could not fault this property. It had all that we needed, and more besides, to ensure that we had a great holiday. It felt home from home in all regards, and was really comfortable, with plenty of space. Within a small gated community, this is certainly one of the best property positions, overlooking a lake and enjoying sun on the pool area all day. There was a supermarket a short and safe walk away, so you could pick up anything you needed without using the car - very handy for the odd bits and pieces you tend to think of after a bigger shopping trip. Good range of restaurants nearby and visiting the beaches of Fort Myers and Sanibel Island is a straightforward drive. Highly recommended.

Fantastic location, the standards are very high in both cleanliness and equipment. Quiet peaceful community. Almost don't want to write this review because I don't want others to know how great this place is!

"Exceeded our expectations"
We've stayed in and around the Fort Myers area for several years - it's very easy to get to the beaches and also good for trips to Naples and shopping.
Sheila and Rick's villa exceeded all our expectations. It was beautifully clean, with everything we could need, including wifi that worked well, even by the pool. Lovely bedrooms with really comfortable beds and lovely bedding. Space enough for the family to be together, and also to find a space of their own.
The birdsong out on the patio every morning was wonderful - and there is a real sense of privacy out in the pool area.
We couldn't have asked for more, and we're looking forward to visiting again soon.

"A fabulous holiday home"
What a wonderful time we had staying in Rick and Sheila's wonderful home in Fort Myers. Sheila was so helpful ahead of our departure with advice and answering any questions we had ahead of our trip.
The villa is set in a beautiful gated residential area, everything within the community is kept to a very high standard. The villa is well stocked for lots of fun in the pool or on the beach which makes for an even more relaxing trip. The pool area was beautiful and peaceful and we certainly spent a lot of time out on the deck relaxing.
Inside the villa, it has everything you could ever need and was like a home away from home. Everything was well maintained and the furnishings were to a very high standard.
There was a good selection of shops, restaurants and take aways near by, some of which in walking distance. The beach is only a short drive away and was lovely with a vast selection of bars and restaurants to pick from.
The next time we visit Fort Myers we will definately be in touch about staying in this wonderful holiday home - thanks again!

"A Perfect Holiday Home In A Fantastic Location"
Even the beautiful photos of the villa on the website do not do justice to how lovely this villa is. It is really spacious, very clean, furnished to really high standards, with informal, formal and outside eating areas, and a really well equipped kitchen. From the kitchen you walk through the laundry/pantry area to the garage where we found 3 bikes and lots of beach equipment and pool toys. The master suite has twin sinks a lovely large walk in shower and separate bathtub There is also another bathroom next to the other two bedrooms which was ideal as our party was made up of two separate families travelling together.
The villa is set in a beautiful, quiet gated residential area, the gardens and surrounding areas are kept to a very high standard. Inside the villa you will find everything you need and more, including everything you need to take for a day on the beach or an outing in the car.
The pool is brilliant especially to cool off in the Florida sunshine, or after a day exploring the Fort Myers area. It was really hot whilst we were visiting and it was great that when sitting outside you could always find some shade to relax in, and the mesh screening surrounding the pool kept out all the unwanted flying insects.
The villa is in easy reach of the local amenities with a supermarket only a short walk away. There is no shortage of restaurants and take aways to choose from, when you don't feel like cooking in the well equipped kitchen. We found it to be an ideal base for exploring the area, and even got as far as a day trip to Busch Gardens, although along day everyone agreed it was well worth it.
We often went on a bike ride to Lakes Park which is a short ride away, along safe paths, it was lovely riding around there early in a morning before the sun got too high. We even saw an alligator, and lots of turtles and birds along the way.
If you like shopping you won't be disappointed with the shopping malls and the designer outlets, all only a short drive away.
We visited some lovely places, but we didn't have enough time to see all this area of Florida has to offer, we enjoyed relaxing on the beaches and by the pool as well
Six Mile Cypress is only a short drive away, where you can walk through a swamp on a boardwalk. If you're lucky you will be able to see alligators, turtles, amardillos, otters and lots of birds.
Lake Trafford where you can take an airboat ride around the lake spotting alligators and numerous birds.
Dolphin Watching Tour. Took a ride on the Sanibel Thriller a 55ft motor boat which took you round the islands of Sanibel and Captiva. On route we came across at least four pods of dolphins, at one point nine dolphins were playing in the wake of the boat, an amazing experience which we will always remember.
Our favorite beaches were on Sanibel which is a beautiful, unspoilt island a short drive from the villa. You have to pay a small toll to get to Sanibel, but there are some amazing beaches, restaurants and sunsets, well worth it.
Fort Myers Beach is more lively and has shops bars and restaurants close by, as well as offering the usual jet skis, parasailing etc. It seems really popular at the weekends when the local seem to head to the beach to relax and enjoy the lovely warm water.
We would love to return to the villa still so much to see and do!!, we all had a brilliant holiday.

"A fabulous villa in a great location with superb facilities & pool"
We had another fabulous week at this high quality villa, returning after a stay in 2009. Our boys, 9 & 13 made full use of the pool and we really enjoyed a nice relaxing stay. This time we found the local pizza restaurant and even tried the Castle Golf. For our son's 13th birthday we watched the Miracles win a couple of baseball games - a great family atmosphere! During our trip to nearby Lovers Key we were joined in the sea by a pod of dolphins - what more could we ask for?
We find this villa is ideally located to visit all the sites near to Fort Myers. The last few days were spent at the South Seas resort on Captiva, which was lovely, but not quite to the standard of this property!
