The Florida region
Florida has been a top destination for many decades, thanks to the great winter weather, Disney World, and hundreds of miles of spectacular beaches.
Exiting Excursions and Day Trip possibilities abound from a base at our house in Fort Myers. Here below are just a few samples
Sunsplash Water Park ideal family destination open seasonally (not during winter months)
Sannibel and Captiva
Beautiful barrier islands reached via a toll bridge.
Several very fine beaches and preserve areas.
Ding darling Wildlife Preserve, extensive area of lakes and mangrove habitation. Vast variety of exotic birds and many species of Floridas wildlife can be seen here, via a wildlife drive with many stopping points.
Sarasota (the cultural centre of Florida)
Visit the Ringling Mansion/Museum/Circus facility.
Selby Botanical Gardens, a must destination for serious Gardeners and Botanists.
Visit Almond Circle in the evening for the restaurants and shops, although this is an expensive upmarket area.
Myakka River State Park (A few miles East of Sarasota) Great boat trip across the lake to see Birds, Alligators (very large ones) and other creatures in the wild.
Petes beach, in particular the Don Cesar Hotel (King Charles suite) for Sunday Brunch, one of the very best in State.
The Pier, a great place to hang out weekend afternoons.
The Salvador Dali Art Gallery Dedicated to Dali, has a very large collection, one of the worlds largest, always an interesting visit.
Busch Gardens, Florida's largest and most comprehensive theme park, and also major zoo, with a vast collection of animals free to roam over large areas to recreate the "Plains of the Serengeti"
Tampa Aquarium, very large with superb displays of marine life including an underwater tunnel to view sharks etc.
Very nice beach and pier. Dolphins very often can be seen here.
Quirky shopping destination is Tin City, hard to describe but worth a visit.
Very Expensive designer and upmarket shopping and restaurants located around 3rd and 4th Avenue.
Board the Tour Bus at Tin City and get a very interesting narrated tour of the Naples area.
Naples Botanical gardens, an absolute must, it has extensive beautiful tropical gardens, an overlook into everglades terrain, and an absolutely fabulous childrens garden and playground with all sorts of interesting activities available, currently $9.00 per adult, an absolute bargain.
In the heart of the everglades, visit the state park and take a boat trip out into the 10000 islands, and do not fail
to visit Smallwoods Store at Chokoloskee. This is an historic trading post still containing a vast amount of artifacts
from the early settlement days of the 1800's onwards. A fascinating insight into life in Floridas bygone eras.
Miami South Beach.
Can comfortably be enjoyed in a day trip, but an overnight stay gives even more time to explore the area.
Ocean Drive is the Art Deco area, with many original Art Deco Buildings fully restored to their original grandeur.
Many are hotels and contain superb examples of original Art deco furniture. There are countless good restaurants
and Restaurants in the area, though a visit to Jerry' Deli (open 24/7 year round) is thorougly recommended.
furthermost of the Florida Keys, can be visited as a day trip by catching the Key West Express fast launch from Fort Myers. However this is expensive at about $120.00 per person. There is an option to travel one day and return the next, but you need to make overnight hotel arrangements yourself.
Cape Canaveral Space Center.
Fantastic destination for everyone interested in Space exploration. This is too far for a day trip and would require at least One nights stopover.
Fort Myers downtown area is historically significant and the city has preserved the many historic buildings, adding to them river-front Centennial Park which is a venue for many art shows and festivals throughout the year. The river-front and historic district offer many dining opportunities where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets and catch a glimpse of the lucky “Green Flash.” The whole of the historic riverside area has now been extensively refurbished and is a fantastic district with many good restaurants,(including "The Veranda" one of the oldest and finest in the area) also bars, shopping, and a theater.
There are long stretches of beautiful sandy beaches to occupy you during the day at Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel and Captiva Islands and, when the sun sets, you’ll find a great selection of nightlife. Visitors seeking culture, art and entertainment events have a broad choice, including the Barbara B. Mann Performing Art Center, The Broadway Palm Theater, The Florida Repertory Company for performing art and the Alliance for the Arts and Art for ACTS Gallery for fine art.
This town knows how to party and many festivals are held throughout the year, such as The Festival of Lights, which celebrates its famous winter residents, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, and Taste of the Town which showcases local restaurants. Vist the Edison/Ford homes to see Edisons laboratories, and a collection of Vintage
Ford motor cars.
Places to visit in and around Fort Myers include
Six Mile Cypress Slough Reserve
Corkscrew swamp sanctuary
Miramar outlet Mall
The Bell Center shops.
Gulf Town Center.

"Great Southwest Florida Destination!!"
Our family of five recently returned from a 10 day stay at this home. The home is in a quiet neighborhood, very convenient to the airport, Highway 75, shopping and golf courses. The home is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It offers the same comforts of home. We appreciated the full kitchen and eating our meals while dining on the lanai overlooking the private backyard. We used the heated pool and hot tub every day during our stay. The owner and managers of this property are very courteous and accommodating, answering any questions we had with a prompt, friendly response. We will be vacationing at this home again and again. We were very pleased!!

"Fantastic house, spacious and clean."
We stayed at this house for eight nights as part of a three week trip to Florida.
Judy who runs the house was friendly and helpful, she asks you to ring on arrival.
We loved the set out of the house, with bedrooms coming off the open plan living area. The house has everything you need. We used the beach equipment/ toys for trips to the beach. Simple things that make the day easier with four children.
The house is in a great location for many days trips, we went to the Everglades on an air boat tour, fort Myers beach, Naples, capitiva island, Busch gardens. Great to come back to a pool to cool down in. A wonderful week was had by all.

""Just the best""
Now that we have returned to the UK after four fabulous weeks at your villa, we thought it appropriate to leave some feedback.
We have visited Florida, mainly the Gulf Coast, for many years and comparing this to all the others we have stayed in, this must rank about the best. We found this villa to be extremely large, very spacious and well laid out and, of course, spotless.
Everything was supplied, so much so the we kept on finding other utensils and gadgets in every cupboard! There was nothing left wanting.
The pool area was a dream, eating by the pool most days. Talking about the pool, the spa was really great - not many villas have these.
Beaches are an easy drive away, but one of our favourites is at Siesta Key - a fair drive, but a must to enjoy the soft granite powder beach which never burns your feet! This is where one can find "The Old Salty Dog" restaurant - another favourite. Talking of restaurants, the "Elephant Bar and Grill" by the Edison Mall is well worth a visit.
Shopping - say no more. Lots to chose from, and with Publix supermarket just down the road, grocery shopping is never a chore.
We flew into Ft. Myers via Charlotte on US Airways from Gatwick. Easily the best and most stress-free way to do the trip.
Many thanks again for allowing us to use your villa and accepting our booking for next year - can't wait!

"Very disappointed with the spa not working and the pool area"
We arrived at night, and fortunately we were able to get through the gated area, as another car was coming through. We pulled up on the drive and entered through the porch area which was very poorly lit, and a bit grubby. The handle to the house was covered in duck tape, which was not a very good first impression. However, when we entered the house, we were pleasantly surprised, as the house looked nice and clean.
The following morning we went out to look at the pool. The pool looked dirty (it needs painting) and there was green algae all over the bottom of the spa. The pool area was dirty and the outside table and chairs were filthy. I found some bleach spray in the cupboard and cleaned some of them so that we could have breakfast by the pool. We tried to turn on the spa to see if it would clear the algae, but the spa would not turn on. We were very disappointed.
I called Judy (who looked after the property) to confirm our arrival, and asked about the spa. She explained that there was a problem, and the pool company were coming out that day to repair it. Judy was very nice and friendly, and to cut a long story short, I had to call her virtually every day and made several calls to the pool company in the first week to try and get the spa repaired. The pool company had visited several times, but to no avail. Judy told me that it was unlikely that the spa would be repaired during our stay. I expressed our disappointment, and Judy said that she had already made Paul Hipwell aware. We heard someone outside early one morning, and found out that it was the pool repair man. The spa turned on, but a few minutes later it had tripped out again. We had made many calls to Judy and the pool company, so enough was enough.
On returning home, we were expecting a call or an email from Paul Hipwell, apologising for the problems and inconvenience with the spa. To our disappointment we hear nothing. I emailed Paul to confirm what he had apparently been informed about by Judy, and again heard nothing. Eventually after we had been home a week, I decided to call Paul. He denied getting the email, but it's funny how he received all the others prior to our vacation, and throughout our conversation he seemed to know the contents of the email! I said that we expected a call or email apologising for the calls and inconvenience we had regarding the spa. Paul very rudely replied 'wasn't an apology from Judy enough, obviously not!!' I said that we had chosen this property as we wanted to make good use of the spa. Paul abruptly replied 'well you can't expect everything to be perfect, and what would get in this country for that price!!!' I said that the villa was not in this country, so that was of no comparison. I said that the price was the same as any other similar villa, and he said 'I don't charge any extra for the heating of the pool.' I said that the pool was not heated anyway, it was freezing, and even if the spa had worked did not have a working light in it. He replied 'the spa wouldn't work after 6pm anyway, it turns itself off!'
In a nutshell, the house was nice, and comfortable, the outside was very disappointing. A few things that need replacing/repairing; the blinds to the patio door, as some of the slats have been badly repaired, so that when you open the blinds, some of the slats fall down. The patio furniture needs a good scrub, along with the pool area. The pool needs either cleaning or re-painting as it doesn't look very welcoming. The toilet brush needs replacing as it is filthy (in the en-suite), we never used the other bathroom. The tap in the kitchen sink needs replacing as its wobbly and we had to use the spray tap to fill the kettle as it would not turn back to the tap function. Bob (who also looks after the house) eventually managed to get it to switch back to the tap function with great difficulty, and got soaked jeans in the process! A new front door handle. The door lock could do with replacing is it looks very old, and we were not confident that it was that secure. The outside front porch light either needs a good clean, a brighter bulb, or needs replacing so that you can enter the code in the door without using a torch every night. A safe wouldn't go a miss either.
I did not expect the rude and impolite conversation that I had with Paul Hipwell, therefore I would not personally recommend this villa to anyone.
It is very disapointing to receive this review, (the only negative one we have ever received) knowing what tremendous efforts our managers, my wife, and myself make to ensure the villa is always presented to a very high standard. Unfortunately this guest did have to tolerate the fact that the pool pumping equipment broke down during her stay, and was not able to be repaired for several days. This has never happened previously, but equipment and appliances do fail occasionally. Except for the pool problem non of her other complaints was ever mentioned to me, at any time during or after her visit. The first I knew of them was when I read her review.
I do completely refute many of her complaints and would like to respond as follows.
Porch lighting is not bright enough to read digital lock at night. Guests are advised in advance to have a small flashlight if arriving late at night, and also advised how to proceed if the security gate is closed.
The porch is not grubby and was freshly painted 4 months prior to this visit.
The ductape covers the interior knob of a second unused deadlock on the entrance door to prevent children from accidently setting it.
The pool water condition does degrade if the circulation is not maintained, and I accept that this happened.
I completely refute the comments attributed to me in the telephone call made by this guest to request compensation, they are a grossly distorted version of the conversation.
The pool temperature in September is usually higher than the 84 degrees the pool heater is set to because day time air temperatures are often in the 90's., even the average sea temperature is in the mid 80's, so it is totally untrue to suggest the water was freezing. Guests are advised in advance that the pool and spa pumping equipment is contolled by a timeclock from 8.00am to 6.00pm. The pool can still be used at any time.
There is nothing wrong with the kitchen tap and spray hose, and there was a damaged slat to the patio blind which has now been replaced. I also completely deny that I was rude or impolite to this guest at any time.
The following are facts not mentioned by this guest.
1/ Prior to her visit I researched and gave her information she wanted in connection with a civil ceremony.
2/ She requested and was given a late checkout extended by several hours.
3/ She received a compensation payment for loss of use of the spa, and an offer of a 10% discount on any subsequent booking.
I would like to also point out that her review was not submitted for several weeks after her rental ended on 19th September, and consequently is not in chronological order. The review "Just The Best" was submitted for a visit which commenced later, from 1st to 28th October. This guest was so pleased with the villa, that after one week in residence he emailed me and reserved the villa again for the whole of October in 2013 ! Clearly this guest was more than satisfied, as also are the American couple who have rented the villa for three months in each of the last three years. I am sorry this lady felt compelled to write such exaggerated negative comments, and I can only hope that it is clear from the other reviews that other guests do not take the same view.

"Christmas 2011 - fantastic"
We spent 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year in this home at Cypress Preserve Place. The whole experience was wonderful. Everything was made easy, no problems with transactions, the website description was accurate and the information we received was very helpful. The house is in excellent condition and the pool and jacuzzi were lovely. The house is in an excellent location for travelling around and exploring South West Florida. We have already recommended this house to some friends and would definitely use it again.

"Perfect! Would highly recommend!"
Just wanted to leave some feedback for your Guestbook as we have just returned from your beautiful villa in Fort Myers!
As a family we have been to the US many times, driving through many locations. We decided on Fort Myers for its easy access to both outlet shops and Sandy Beaches and the location of your villa didn't disappoint !
Your Villa itself is stunning, clean, fresh, modern and had absolutely everything we could need and more...The Pool was perfect and was cleaned each week. The rooms are a fab size with a feeling of open space throughout.
We took our two teenage girls, our 8yr old son & 4yr old daughter...none of us wanted to leave at the end of our 2 week stay! So there really is something for everyone there.
We hired a car for the 10-20mins drive to the stunning white sandy beaches, outlets etc but found ourselves at the top of the road most days as there is a fabulous array or shops and supermarkets, restaurants etc. We even got our sons haircut there!
The managers you have out there, Judy & Bob couldn't be more helpful. Gave us many ideas on local outings which we all enjoyed.
We have never returned to the same place twice, always preferring to discover new places, but i do believe this vacation has changed that, and we look forward very much to returning there again one day.
May we take this opportunity to Thank you Paul for your speed and efficiency in making this holiday possible for us with our last minute request in booking your villa, you made it so easy!
