The Highlands region
Once a Hanoverian Fort, a Monastery and a school, The Highland Club encompasses some outstanding architectural Grade A Listed buildings. Set in the heart of the Highlands of Scotland, it is a great place from which to explore all the Highlands can offer young and old alike, whether for nature lovers/hillwalkers, for families or for that romantic getaway. Situated half way along the Great Glen, this glacial valley has spectacular vistas whether you are on one of the many footpaths, marked cycleways or cruising along the canal itself from The North Sea to the picturesque Western Isles. Equidistant from Fort William and Inverness and with many activities all within an hour, it really is the perfect Highland base for year round exploring or relaxation.
Fort Augustus area
Fort Augustus has a number of local pubs/restaurants, local supermarket and a variety of gift shops. Whisky Distilleries are in all directions, while for the children, the Hogwart's Express is a train that runs along the valley where Harry Potter was filmed. The nearby ruins of Urquhart Castle, Cawdor Castle and the world famous Eilean Donan Castle are all within an hour's drive. Not forgetting the Loch Ness Visitor's Centre and the monster itself....
The location allows traffic free access to Aonach Mor ski area in the winter months and year round access to the Highlands and all the local outdoor/adventure sports. Set in more than 20 acres, the landscaped private gardens are surrounded on 3 sides by the Caledonian Canal, the River Tarff and the western shores of Loch Ness and boasts its own small harbour and mooring facilities.
The beautiful beaches of the West Coast of Scotland can be found about an hour away with easy access to Isle of Skye across the new bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. To the East there are several beaches in the Dornoch/Black Isle area. Fort Augustus has a number of local pubs/restaurants, local supermarket and a variety of gift shops.
How to get there
Inverness is about a 40 min drive from The Highland Club and has its own airport with direct daily flights to London Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Southampton. In addition to British Airways services a number of budget airlines fly into Inverness, including Thomson Fly, EasyJet, BMI Baby and FlyBe.

Further details outdoors: Set in more than 20 acres, the landscaped private gardens are bounded by the Caledonian Canal, River Tarff and the western shores of Loch Ness with private harbour and mooring facilities. Moreover, the Lochside Restaurant serves lunches, snacks and sumptuous evening meals while you sit admiring the length of Loch Ness as its waters lap gently against the converted boathouse.
Further details
Please note The Highland Club is a first class conversion of a Benedictine Monastery and every detail is being restored to bring it back to it's former glory. While Phase 1 and all the apartments available for holiday rental are now complete, there is still an element of restoration work going on, and it is unlikely that the Spa/swimming facilities and Club Lounge will be available before late 2009.
