The Menorca region
Smaller than its neighbours Ibiza and Majorca, Menorca has avoided much of their excessive development and remains an island of rolling hills, lush fields, pretty villages and spotless sandy beaches. The island's capital, Mahon – or Mao, as it is known, is home to some dazzling Georgian architecture, museums, leafy squares and old churches. The port itself is one of the deepest natural harbours in the world. On the far west of the island, Menorca's other main town – and its former capital – is Ciutadella. It is a bustling place with old palaces built of pink sandstone, markets and narrow cobbled streets. The Menorcans are friendly & family oriented whose passion for enjoying great quality food in a warm inviting climate is frankly infectious!
The northern part of the island is more rugged & secluded with a constant gentle breeze. The little fishing town of Fornells is a delightful place, immaculately kept with a lagoon / marina ideal for families. The restaurants on the seafront are buzzing with locals and tourists simply enjoying people-watching in the square, or indulging in the fresh fish on offer (lobster calderetta is the Island's favourite dish and a must try). In August the Fiesta comes to town and the Menorcans come into their own when it comes to entertainment. Live music, firework displays, craft markets and the legendary Gin y limon drink all help to create a wonderfully happy atmosphere.

"Just perfect for the family"
This was the second time we've stayed at this pretty development and we loved it even more. This apartment is perfectly placed for views out to sea whilst lazing in bed, and close enough to the pool for the kids to run up and down to it without being so close that you get the noise. We had a quiet, peaceful 2 weeks and adore this rugged unspoilt part of the island. Our kids made friends with other children they met and had wonderful times playing in the lovely gardens together. Cala Tirant is fabulous on a calm day, as with most of Menorca, the snorkelling is brilliant. Definitely our favourite destination for family holiday.
