A Special Place to Stay in Normandy
Inspected and recommended by Alastair Sawday in the 2006 and 2008 editions of the 'Special Places to Stay - French Holiday Homes' guide, Le Gaillon is totally private in its large garden, with outstanding views over beautiful countryside. It is so peaceful, you will be able to forget the hustle and bustle of life and just enjoy being totally by yourselves with nobody else around.
Inside, it’s very comfortable as it is our well-loved holiday home (much tidier than our main home though!) and it has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique furniture, comfortable sofas, big rugs and original stone floors, yet with all modern conveniences including top of the range newly installed kitchen and bathroom, satellite TV, HiFi, DVD player, and loads of games, books and films for your enjoyment. We do everything we can to ensure that you will have a fantastic holiday.

The Normandy / Seine-Maritime region
The green, flowered Normandy countryside stretches between the sea and hedged farmland, and is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday.
The "Pays de Bray", where Le Gaillon is situated, is a lush, pastoral region of half-timbered manor houses and apple orchards providing the famous cider and calvados brandy; and contented cows grazing in the deep green grass providing the rich cream, butter and cheeses such as the local speciality - the heart-shaped Neufchatel.
The area inspired many artists, both the spectacular chalk cliffs of the "alabaster coast", as well as the banks of the Seine as it winds its way out to the sea - Monet's house and gardens at Giverny are well worth a visit.
The area is also close enough to Paris for a day trip for some shopping, culture, or why not treat the children to a day at Disneyland?
Forges-les-Eaux area
We are just 10 minutes away from the delightful spa town of Forges-les-Eaux, with its market, restaurants, Grand Casino (open till 4am!) and Club Med thalasso-therapy spa, pretty lakes and woodland walks; 20 minutes away is Neufchatel-en-Bray, home of the famous heart-shaped cheese.
30 minutes away is historic Rouen where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. A wonderful place for a spot of retail therapy as you wander through the cobbled streets and medieval buildings of the old town and at the weekly market.
The lovely sandy beaches with rock pools at low tide along the stunning white-cliffed 'alabaster coast' near Dieppe are just 40 minutes away - enjoy succulent sea food in the markets and restaurants and don't forget to try the famous 'Marmite Dieppoise' fish casserole....
How to get there
It's hard to believe that this beautiful area is just 2 hours from Calais via the new A16 motorway (described by the Mail on Sunday as "the quietest in Europe"). This makes it an ideal base for those of you who do not wish to waste those precious holidays tearing down a motorway for hours on end! - 2 hours drive from Calais (just 4.5 hours from London via the tunnel!) - 40 minutes from Dieppe - 1 hour from Le Havre The nearest Airport is Beauvais, and Paris is just 1.5 hours drive away (or 2hrs by train).

Further details indoors: All rooms overlook the garden and those upstairs have breathtaking views to the distant Foret de Lyons.
The stone construction of the house means that it remains lovely and cool in the summer months, yet retains the heat in the winter to keep it nice and cosy. There are two fireplaces, the one in the kitchen is known as an "insert" glass-fronted wood-burning fire and is vented in the chimney to provide extra heat in both the dining room and upstairs bedrooms. In addition there are electric radiators in all the rooms.
The house is very spacious (150m2) and has been furnished to a very high standard of comfort - it will comfortably sleep up to 10 people - 6 adults + 4 children + baby (a good-quality travel cot is available).
However, as there is just one bathroom, we recommend a maximum of either 6 adults + baby, or 4 adults + 4 children + baby; and to reflect this we have kept our prices much lower than would otherwise be expected for this amount of space and the high standard of accommodation.
Further details outdoors: The house is set in its own 3000m2 garden Adjoining the house is the stable block which provides a further 100m2 and is divided into various outhouses - one of which contains a table-tennis table, a table football table, and various games such as a volleyball net, boules/petanque, badminton sets. There is also an ample stock of garden furniture - you will certainly need the sun loungers when the sun shines as the terrace is a real sun trap - all day long!

Guestbook
Mr & Mrs F from Clapham: A wonderful time. The children have had a ball and we enjoyed the views, the cows, the stars, etc. Beautiful views from the terrace and early morning mist, late afternoon warmth, and night-time moon and stars. Cows very friendly. Could stay forever...
The W family: "We have had a fantastic two weeks and shall be very sorry to leave. We are already talking about when we can come back! The location of Le Gaillon is perfect in all respects: fantastic views, superb cycling country and a lovely garden for the 4 children to play in.. plus, evenings playing boules on the gravel, sitting outside eating meals... and all within a couple of hours of Boulogne! In summary, a perfect family holiday resulting in 2 families hooked on France!" "I enjoyed Le Gaillon. Me and my brother J had lots of fun in the garden. I liked the swing chair. I thought the cows were friendly. Me and my family played table tennis and football table. We liked to play with the dolls house. I'm glad we went there. We went out to Disneyland and Dieppe, they were lots of fun. The beach at Dieppe was lovely and the weather was very hot but I still injoyed it no matter what. I would love to come here again". (M, aged 7) "I loved it here at Le Gaillon. There are loads of brilliant things to do. I liked it all especially the cemeterys, Dieppe, the Normandy beaches and Disneyland Paris. I had loads of room to play on the grass. My baby cousin T had a great time looking at the cows and E had a great time too. France is a lovely place and I want to come here again sometime". (J, aged 10).
Mr & Mrs C from Halifax: The holiday was excellent. The house was fine in every department. I have no criticism whatsoever... ...it is a tribute to you on how immediately we felt at home. If we were able to have a property of our own I would like it to be just like yours... ...you were bothered about us and our stay long after most providers would have done. At the end of it all I feel I have been staying at a friend's house rather a traditional type holiday arrangement. Thanks again...
The V family from Hove: "So relaxing! Brilliant to wake up and only see fields and trees from my bed!!! Christmas day opening our presents in front of the fire!!! How magical. The house is wonderful - the fires brilliant - the beds comfy. We've just lazed around and walked, played football (boys only!) and eaten... Can life get any better?" "I like the countryside, it's very nice. Fires every day, smell of woodsmoke in our noses, walks interesting, see lots of wildlife... Nice being away from everyone, you can make as much noise as you want!" (T, aged 15) "It was fantastic, only seeing countryside for miles" (G, aged 13) "It was excellent and I loved the green and having fires everyday. Christmas day was the best ever I have had..." (B, aged 10)
