The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region
The Forest of Dean and surrounding area is ideally situated on the edge of the region, with wonderful landscapes, acres of woodland, and green hills, yet is close to the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol and regency Cheltenham and the cathedral city of Gloucester, which have both historic architecture and modern shopping centres. You are also within easy driving distance of Georgian Bath, Stratford-On-Avon and South Wales. The river Severn, with its famous bridges, attracts surfers wishing to ride the Severn bore, and meanders through the region, as does the Wye, in a picturesque valley setting.
There are many fine local eating places, with menus to suit all tastes and budgets, from cosy country pubs to trendy city restaurants.
Forest of Dean area
The Forest of Dean has over 100 square kilometres of woodland made up of both evergreen and deciduous trees. It was England's first national forest park and is England's largest oak woodland. It is the perfect place to enjoy spectacular scenery and visit historic buildings, gardens and museums, craft centres and family attractions as well as taking part in a wide range of activities from walking to scuba diving. Take a walk through the forest in springtime to photograph the carpets of magical bluebells nestled beneath the trees and relax alongside one of the unspoilt lakes. This woodland has said to have inspired Dennis Potter, Wordsworth and Tolkien, not to mention J K Rowling, who grew up in the Forest.
The area is perfect for walking, bird and wildlife watching, horse riding, cycling and mountain biking, canoeing and rock climbing, abseiling, caving, off road driving, clay pigeon shooting, angling and golfing and much more... The Ryder Cup 2010 (Oct 1st - 3rd), is taking place at Newport, 30 minutes away, with regular trains from Lydney..
Yorkley village has two pubs, both serving food, a medical centre, local shop and post office. Local tourist attractions include Go Ape high wire forest adventure course, Puzzlewood (used as a filming location for the BBC's production of Merlin), the National Diving and Activity Centre, Offas Dyke walk, Taurus Crafts, The Dean Heritage Centre, Symonds Yat, the Nagshead Nature reserve, the National Birds of Prey Centre, the Dean Forest Steam Railway, Littledean Jail and much more...

Guestbook for Dean Valley Panorama
We were amazed at the size of the house, we truly felt the website did not do it justice. The views from the balcony are amazing! Just to wake up in the morning and look out - what a sight. The friendly hosts made us feel welcome and our stay more enjoyable. The Shah/Lamarca family, Middlesex.(May 09)
Had a lovely time, enjoyed your house. Loved the bath. Great weekend. Mr and Mrs Taylor, Eastleigh (July 09)
Wonderful house and lovely location. One of best equipped homes we have ever rented, even after 15 years of renting homes in USA, UK, Canada & Europe. The Touhey family, Cayman Islands (July 09)
Had a lovely stay. Cottage was brilliant, views superb. Had every amenity and more! Our daughter and baby Oscar loved the big bath, at 10 months old it was like a swimming pool! Thank you so much. The Shipley family August 09.
Everything was beautiful, the house, the towns we visited... A wonderful view with rabbits and horses and the landscape all around. Monsieur and Madame Chambry, Dijon, France July 09
Wonderful views, lovely house, the football table kept my son amused! Well equipped & very comfortable. All we could have asked for. Thank you. The Gerrard Family, August 09
Far too short a stay. Next time we will aim for longer to enjoy the house and the views. So much to see and do. Good public transport to Cheltenham & Gloucester. Thank you. There wasn't one thing missing in the house. Mr and Mrs Deering, Sept 09
