The Central England/Cotswolds region

The Forest of Dean is beautiful and spectacular. Walking the many kilometres of paths through the woodland you may meet fallow or red deer or families of wild boar. At the cottage can be seen buzzards, peregrine falcons, goshawks, woodpeckers and many other birds. Through the seasons, from spring with carpets of bluebells, through summer shows of foxgloves and wild orchids to autumn and the kaleidoscopic array of red and gold leaves. The Forest has been the setting for iconic films and TV Dramas such as Harry Potter, Merlin and Dr Who.

A walkers dream territory, there are many dedicated cycle trails (cycles for hire), canoeing and pleasure cruises on the River Wye, with centres for archery, lama trekking, riding or venturing into ancient coal and iron ore mines. Miniature and full size steam railways operate, 4x4 driving experience and Go Ape tree top walks are there and close by there are castles along the old Welsh Border.

Forest of Dean

Badgers End Cottage sits in a tiny lane which ends with a pathway whereby you can walk though an avenue of ancient trees into the nearby town to collect your bread if you wish from the local bakery which is open from 5am onwards! The views are spectacular to the Welsh mountains and the people in the area are friendly and welcoming. You can walk from the cottage into the Forest or down to the local 12C Ostrich Inn which serves real ales, fine wine and terrific food. The area abounds with wildlife and you sleep to the occasional sound of owls hooting, wild boar grunting down the lane and the badgers rustling in the woodland. This is overtaken during the day by peace, tranquility and silence!
