Hopebrook Haven
About the home
This delightful barn conversion which is attached to the owners' house but completely self contained and private, has been finished and furnished to a high standard and offers immaculate accommodation for 2-4 people. Conveniently situated on the A40 Gloucester to Ross-on-Wye road this property offers a lovely, airy, open plan living/kitchen area with breakfast bar and french windows, leading onto a private courtyard filled with flower filled tubs. The patio has a bistro table for alfresco dining or a perfect spot to sit outside in the morning and enjoy that first "cuppa"!
The living room is tastefully furnished to a high standard and at the end of the day offers a perfect spot to catch up on all the days activities and includes a television, DVD player, DVDs, books and games. The modern kitchen has cooker/hob, fridge/icebox, microwave and all the crockery, cutlery you could need. For a small charge, the owners are happy to provide a laundry service should you need it. There are two bedrooms; one bright double aspect ground floor bedroom with king size bed and luxurious mattress. Stairs from the living room lead upstairs to a landing with velux window, 3 piece bathroom with shower and twin-bedded room again with luxurious pocket mattresses. This room has dormer windows overlooking the babbling brook and countryside beyond.
The conversion has been designed to be eco-friendly with heat retaining glass in the french doors, insulated throughout with sheeps' wool and centrally heated so that it provides a very cozy "home base" on cooler days.
There is off-road parking for 2 cars and 2 pubs within a few minutes walking distance offering good food and good ale! The nearest pub, The Farmers Boy, featured on the Channel 4 programme "Four in a Bed" in November 2011 and is famously known for it's 2-in-1 pies!
There are several award winning vineyards nearby where you can enjoy wine tastings, tours and cookery demonstrations.
The Cathedrals of Hereford, Malvern and Gloucester (where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed), take turns in hosting the world famous Three Choirs Festival. The Malverns also host the Royal Horticultural Society Spring and Autumn Shows and of course not forgetting Cheltenham Racecourse where races are held throughout the year including The Festival and Gold Cup in March.
The Royal Forest of Dean and Wye Valley are also a mecca for lovers of the outdoors, with its abundance of wildlife, pastoral scenes, open gardens, arboretums plus many leisure activities including golf, canoeing, rivercruising, rock climbing, cycling, fishing, horse riding as well as walking the many paths including the Wysis Way and Gloucestershire Way. We had such a lovely break, and we were very impressed at how welcoming the cottage felt. Had some great walks, and in the grey wintery weather, we couldn't wait to come back and cosy down with a cup of tea! Everything was so clean, and I especially loved the little touches that really made it home from home! Response: Thank you for your lovely comments. We always strive to make people feel at home when they visit us. Hope to see you again soon! |

I took my partner here for her birthday. We stayed for 2 nights and really wished we had booked a third by the time we were leaving. We're a young couple in our mid/late 20s and found it was everything we wanted. The owners were more than welcoming. The location was a very short 10/15min drive from everything you'd want to see, such as Puzzlewood, Clerewell Caves, The Secret Forest, Symonds Yat and Symonds Rock, etc. It has a very nice walk of its own 1/2 a mile at the rear of the cottage called May Hills. You'd need to drive 5 mins to it though just to save your legs for the actual walk. Very beautiful on a clear evening at sun set, with some wild horses, it really was lovely! A 100yrds down the road was a cracking little country pub called the Farmer's Boy Inn! you dont need to stray any further that there on an evening really as you can walk there, have a few drinks and a meal and walk back. The Staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food is second to none! We had theire 'famous' 2in1 pie of coliflour cheese with Steak and guiness which we thought was amazing, only to be out done on our second evening when we ordered the 8oz fillet from their specials menu....I cannot find the words to decribe how nice this meal was... all i can say is, ORDER IT and find out for yourself! It is testiment to a pub when it is consistantly busy every evening! We were lucky to get in on our first night as we never booked, but the staff made room for us!! :) We will definately look at staying here again the next time we decide to visit the Forest of Dean! Response: So good to hear that you enjoyed yourselves so much! Of course we'd love to see you again. As you mentioned, there are so many other places to visit. We are so centrally situated for Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and South Wales. Look forward to hearing from you! |
