Cotswold Country Cottage
About the home
Mutlers Row cottage was originally built in the 1830's as a row of 4 cottages. Equipped to a very high standard. This fabulous '3 star' cottage is nestled on the north edge of the Forest of Dean in an elevated position overlooking the Severn valley, between villages on the borders of England and Wales. Offering easy access 3 County's (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Monmothshire) and the rich variety of activities they offer. Take one of the many forest walks; see the fascinating sights available in this idyllic area.
Less than a 20 min journey will transport you to historical Hereford, Monmouth with its unusual shops, Chepstow castle and Ross on Wye’s with its wonderful riverside walks and shops: Symonds Yat is the home of the nesting Peregrine falcons and its charming village offering canoeing and riverboat trips: Gloucester/Cheltenham is fantastic for ‘shopaholics’ and there are numerous ‘picture postcard’ Cotswold villages such as the stunning Bourton on the water close by.

The property was bought for its location, history and the stunning views. It is in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' which means the land cannot be built upon, set in an elevated position on the edge of the 'Royal Forest of Dean' it nestles in a hillside over looking the Severn valley, it is perfect.
Having travelled extensively I strongly believe that Britain has the best scenery in the world and this area has some of the very best. It is a 1830's detached cottage with no near neighbors to mention, but the friendly village of Mitcheldean is only 0.5miles down the road, the 'White Horse' pub is wonderful and Sandra, Brian and Dan are so welcoming, as are the locals, so if you fancy a old fashioned singsong or a good 'chinwag' in a typical village pub, its the place to go.
The Forest of Dean / Mitcheldean area
Mitcheldean is only half a mile away. It is a typical Cotswold village and has a Coop, post office, butchers and fruit and veg shop. The local pub, 'The White Horse' has been described in our visitors book as the "most friendly pub in the world...". There is also a Chinese and fish and chip takeaway in the village.
Cinderforrd, a typical Welsh mining village, is 3 miles away and has numerous shops, banks plus a large Lidl and Co-op supermarket. There are many various takeaways and a few good Restaurants and an old fashioned friendly Cinema, where you get shown to your seat by usherettes.
Plenty of villages and local traditional pubs are within a 5 mile radius of the cottage and many fabulous restaurants. All information about the surrounding area and places to eat are kept in a book at the cottage along with taxi numbers and maps. Our guests regularly update the visitor’s book when they find a hidden treasure and we would encourage you to do the same.

Stayed here for a week, very well appointed and immaculate cottage. Arrived in snow and ice, the drive is steep and narrow and has to be reversed down. It is off a busy main road which can be noisy... more |
