Gite | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Great award winning property for those who seek to retreat into the provence countryside. Ideal as a Winter sun break as well as a very popular summer R&R destination (sold out every year). Well set up for babies and young children as well as ideal for honeymooners and couples. Awarded 5 stars by World One Call letting referral organisation 5 years in a row. Place for a 5th person also available see details.
Enjoy sunshine, peace and tranquillity in this award winning Gîte located in 30 hectares (75 acres) of private parkland in the heart of Provence, with a pool overlooking the valley
This two bedroom stone house is tucked away on a small hillside in the hamlet of La Colle. There are only three properties in La Colle, so there is little risk of traffic jams, noise, pollution, parking tickets, urban fog and other little side benefits that come with life in a big city. Just nature, tranquility and peace occasionally disturbed by bird songs and the buzz of bees.
Barely a five minute walk in any direction and the visitor is confronted with the splendour of nature, prairie, forest, lavender fields, scented shrubs, and the prodigality of the flora and the wild life. Here, nature is to be experienced by close contact, taste, and smell. Even the storms are spectacular!
The owners moved here from London at the same time as Peter Mayle did. They could have written the book themselves! La Colle was built several hundred years ago and stands as a good example of the traditional and ancient life and times of Provence.
The accommodation itself has received the Five Globes Award presented by World One Call, a private holiday referral service and has also received four golden olives from "Provence Golden Olives"
As the property is accessed by a narrow country lane, it is not recommended that guests bring sports cars or caravans see main European site for details.

Tucked away on a small hillside is our little hamlet of La Colle with its three principal properties. You will not find here; traffic jams, noises of the city, pollution, parking tickets or a grey sky. Instead you will find nature in all its glories and will, more than likely, be awaken by the birds and the bees rather than the busy cry of the city.
Our property alone has 30 hectares (75 acres) of private park land, yet this is small compared to the adjoining natural space, some of which is cultivated and some left just as it has been for centuries. Here you will find:
A real old-world natural stone agricultural hamlet
Only three property owners in the hamlet
Lavender fields within walking distance
Olive tree plantations
Huge open areas to discover
Fantastic local area to discover
Terrace with superb view of the valley below
BBQ gas and traditional
Hidden in the countryside
Great area for photographers and artists
Welcome pack provided on arrival.
Swimming pool open between April to October.
5th Guest capable via an easy to use blow up electrical single bed (extra person charged).
Garden and parkland is shared yet everyone has their own space. 75+ acres
English-speaking representative on hand to answer any questions.
Multiple outside dining nooks.

About this location
The Provence region
I’ve loved everything visual and creative all my life and having spent the greater part of it in creative advertising and marketing; therefore I know what pleases the eye.
In this region you can venture out in any direction of the compass and find things to be visually excited. Yet you can also be encapsulated by moods or enveloped by tastes or just seep down into the pleasure of relaxation at a pace of life “sans stress”.
Generally the South East of France is one of the highest areas of constant sunshine in Europe, which is why people love it and it's lifestyle.
From our spot you can range out in any direction and within a short drive get to the coast, discover the ancient cities of Aix en Provence, Avignon or Marseille. Roll through undisturbed countryside, visit huge lakes, wander through the Southern Alpes or just cool out in you own hidden domain of La Colle
I have literally travelled the world and was nearly born in a plane, so new places and adventures are very familiar to me. Yet one of the main reasons why I am happy to tell you about this area and why I bought and established myself here was the sense of “a very laid back way of life”, yet with all that the modern world can offer at the same time. A sort of “sophisticated relaxation!”
The principal town serving the area is Forcalquier where one will find all the necessary ingredients of such quality and variety that the preparation of a feast will become an immediate requirement. There are two supermarkets, and a host of small shops and businesses that will tempt your senses. Many of the products have been produced locally, tomatoes that taste like the real thing, local lamb that has been brought up organically on the prairies and pastures, and of course a vast selection of high quality cheeses and wines.
However there are many small interesting villages and towns to discover. Throughout the summer almost every town presents some type of festival, show, concert, special event or a local fête. In addition, there are many interesting architectural sites to see within a thirty minute radius, from churches to monasteries, beautiful villages such as Lurs -a fully restored hilltop village full of artists- a lovely countryside and some spectacular nature landmarks

I am sorry that you now feel this way, as according to our records you left within hours of arrival and indicated on departure that it was for personal reasons. It did not in fact become clear until you stated that you would write this review unless you received a refund.
We always try and provide as much information as possible about our properties, and as your booking came through our main European site you would have had full access to the detailed information about the access, none of which we own, and the fact that we are in a very country position in middle of a private natural park with many different types of wild animals, forests, lavender fields, olive orchards and natural spaces. Having sonic sound repellants is a common feature in country houses.
Had you have indicated to us prior to your arrival that you suffered from an acute medical sensitivity to certain noises (which you did on our talk through on your arrival) I would have suggested that maybe the countryside was not a suitable place for your stay.
We are not responsible for maintaining the French road system, yet we appreciate that as this is the entrance to the hamlet we try to support it. The two free 4×4s are provided to assist you, unfortunately you chose not to use one of them and ignored our advice. Other guests have used their own and normal hired vehicles and have not found the access difficult. This is verifiable in other Trip Advisor reviews both for Galileo and The Main House La Colle, I can not actually understand how you missed this.
We fully describe each room with multiple photographs and list the exact size. We do not consider as “small” the 20m2 second bedroom with additional ensuite bathroom. The main bedroom is also described as being in a 60m2 open plan room and the main bedroom does have a half height wall which houses the library plus marine grade canvas stors. This is explained, so that you can benefit from the magnificent 400 year old oak beamed fully exposed ceiling and a commanding view straight from your bed of the valley below.
I am sure that you can appreciate that having refused many other guests during the 8 months you reserved Galileo and having provided you with full details, that we can not just refund bookings on the spot.
Forty percent of our bookings this year are from returning guests, some of whom are from last year and the Main House at La Colle has been booked for a year by a working family who use the entrances every day and have just confirmed that they will extend past the year.
We understand that for some people La Colle is not the right place, hence why we provide so much information about what we offer. Yet for others it is a country haven blessed with astounding views and an amazing experience and we have many verifiable hand written reviews in our guest book which confirms this. The only way is to Judge for Yourself. Reviews are just one persons opinion and are sometimes used for the wrong reasons.

Thank you for your kind words and great to hear that you think the water at La Colle is up to Spa water standards. It makes me very happy to have had a guest that had read all the information I provide and then finds it exactly as they expected even to a level of more than expected. Especially when you have come from Hong Kong. Thanks for coming.
