Charming cottage with private pool ,terrace and garden, superb countryside setting. Great for families or couples seeking tranquillity, or a base for exploring a relatively undiscovered part of Provence; superb market towns, picturesque villages and great restaurants!

Relaxing in the sunshine by the pool or in the garden. Taking in the stunning views of the surrounding hills whilst dining al fresco on the terrace. Enjoying the taste of real Provence at one of the many excellent restaurants in the region. Browsing through the lively market at Forcalquier. Joining in with local festivities in the summer months.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region

The house is situated about 3km from the hilltop village of Dauphin which has a restaurant, a café, grocer and boulangerie. The village of St Michel l'Observatoire is about 5km. As its name implies, this village has an important observatory and there are interesting astronomical events organised in the summer such as star-gazing walks and night time picnics. The owner's son has a very successful restaurant on this village square called L'Auberge des Coupoles - definitely worth a visit!

Another nearby village is Mane, about 6km, which has small shops and restaurants. Just outside Mane is a Benedictine priory called Salagon; it has beautiful gardens which are open for visits most days.

Aix-en-Provence is only about 40 minutes drive. This is a fascinating town with many lovely boutiques and cafés and little squares - our favourite town in France!

There is much to explore in this area such as the Lubéron Hills, the big lake at Saint Croix, and the spectacular Verdon Gorges. There is a golf course at Manosque about 20 minutes drive. This is a relatively ‘undiscovered’ part of Provence and there are many picturesque ancient villages to explore.

Forcalquier area

Forcalquier,8km, is a lively little town which has an extensive street market on Mondays (see photos), a supermarket and a good choice of restaurants and small shops. Cycling and hiking are extremely popular here, and the Forcalquier region boasts 78km of waymarked cycle routes as well as plenty of footpaths through the exceptionally beautiful countryside. There are also public tennis courts in Forcalquier. There is always lots going on during the summer; many of the villages in the area have concerts and local fêtes.

How to get there

· Flybe – budget flights to Avignon from Exeter, Southampton and Jersey. Avignon airport is about 50 miles from the property.
· Ryanair and Easyjet offer flights to Marseille from a variety of destinations - Marseille airport is about 60 miles from the property.
· Try the train - now that Eurostar departs from St Pancras station, the journey from London to Avignon takes just over 6 hours (or just under 6 hours on the direct train in the summer!)

· Set in quiet private rural hamlet with owners’ house and another cottage available to let. (All three properties have their own pool and are secluded from one another).

Conditions

· Linen is available for hire from the owner, EUR 20 per person for bed linen and indoor towels.
· Refundable damage deposit EUR 225 cash.
· Electricity and heating are included.
· Final clean is included. Extra cleaning available approx. EUR 15 per hour.
· 40% deposit payable at time of booking, balance payable 8 weeks before holiday.
