The Northern France / Lorraine region
Les Tourterelles is situated in a lovely village off Baccara, known for its crystal around the world and also the Vosges for skiing. There is a lot of history in the village and a lot of monument to visit such as the oldest mediaeval fortress in Europe dating from Louis the fourteenth, the crystal shop, the centre of modern art, the valley of the big lake and at Christmas the biggest Christmas market village
Fontenoy-la-joute area
The area is known as the little Versailles of Lorraine. Fontenoy-la-Joute is a charming village of 300 inhabitants. It is peaceful and tranquil and is located in a great area, ideal for bicycle rides. Fontenoy is also known as the books' village as it has over 30 book shops.
The chapel dating from the 12th century is at the heart of the old church.
There is a lot to do around: ~ there are numerous castles to visit: Luneville, Fleville, etc ~ Nancy, capital of the region, is only 40 minutes away ~ numerous monuments and churches all over the region
The Vosges region offers many activities: its forests offer great walks and its hidden lakes are a great way to relax during the summer. During winter, several sites offer skiing facilities.
The Alsace region which is very close by, only 1 hour drive, will enchant you and offer ideal days out for the families: the Montagne des Singes, which is a monkey world where monkeys are free to roam, its fortresses, the Eco-Musee (a village rebuilt and where people live in the same ways as in the Middle Age and offers several activities including farm animals for children to pet), the cuisine, including the sauerkraut, foie gras, wines... Alsace is also very popular around Christmas as it offers typical Christmas markets, visited by tourists from around the world and the famous muled wine.
