About the home

Let me introduce our holiday home which has provided us and our family and especially our grandchildren with very comfortable, homely accommodation. It is fully equipped to cater for all your needs and a 1 acre garden with a heated 8 x 4 mtr pool add to the experience. Ideally suited for 4 adults. There are two smaller beds for young children. Balcony overlooking the fishing lake.
It is ideal for a relaxing holiday in the country with easy access to the local villages, Foussais Payre and Coulonges sur l'Autize, and larger towns, Fontenay le Comte and Niort, all of which have markets.

Facilities

Further details indoors:
* The accommodation is on one level and down fairly steep stairs the cellar houses the washing machine.
* The sitting/dining room and two of the bedrooms have double aspect windows with french doors leading onto the terrace.
* The sitting/dining room has a lovely view of the lake.
* The dining table can be extended to seat 8.
* The double beds are king size, one of which can be split to make two singles.
* The kitchen has a double aspect with a door leading to steps to the garden. There is a table which could be used for breakfast.
* For the cooler evenings in Spring/Autumn electric heaters will be supplied for your comfort.

Further details outdoors:
* Private 8 mtrs x 4 mtrs pool in private garden, heated from June to the end of September.
* At the rear of the house overlooking the lake is a raised deck with an extending dining table and chairs for outdoor eating, and a cantilevered parasol for sun protection.
* Surrounding the pool is a very large deck with ample room for relaxing and sunbathing.
* Four sunloungers, four captain's chairs, and a double chair swing for use on the pool deck.
* A large gazebo can be erected on the pool deck for sun protection.
* Please note there are only 2 adult bikes available.

Further details

* A welcome pack can be provided on request for a small charge.
* All linen and bath towels are provided but not pool/beach towels .
* The English lady who cleans the house can be contacted regarding any problems.

Conditions

* Smoking only allowed in the garden.
* A refundable breakages deposit of £100 is required at time of booking, to be returned two weeks after departure, subject to satisfactory inspection.
* A non-refundable deposit is required of £150 (per week) to secure booking.
* The balance of booking fee to be paid six weeks before your holiday.
* The garden and drive slope which could make access difficult for the elderly or infirm. Please check with us.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region

The Vendee is a micro-climate area which has similar sunshine hours to the South of France. The beaches at the Ile de Rey, La Tranche sur Mer and Sables d'Olonne are some of the best in France and only an hours drive away.
The Marais Poitevin - Venise Vert or "Green Venice" is a labyrinth of canals and waterways which can be explored on foot, by bike or in punts..

The Fontenay le Comte / Foussais Payre area

The choice for local entertainment and exercise is extensive. Discover the Mervent Forest, 20 minutes away, for beautiful walks, horse riding, an adventure park, rock climbing, sailing and swimming in the lake.
The mining museum in Faymoreau gives an insight into the mining industry in the area which ceased 50 years ago.
Vouvant is a wonderful medieval village with Melusine's tower overlooking the River Vendee.
There are a lot of local walks and the Vendee cycle trail passes within 200 mtrs of the house.
For great family days out the world class historical theme park of Puy du Fou www.puydufou.com/uk/ is 40 minutes drive away and Futuroscope www.futuroscope.com/eng/index.php near Poitiers an hours drive.

The boys particularly enjoyed the swimming pool and the local wildlife which included lizards in the garden and coypu in the stream just below the property. We discovered many interesting places to explore nearby including Mervent, with its lakeside beach, and the historic Vouvant. Day trips out included the Marais Poitevin and the Il De Re both of which provided great cycle rides with not too many hills. We found the house to be very well equipped, the English television channels allowed adults to do necessary chores whilst keeping the children entertained, and the electric shutters meant the house remained cool. The boys have already asked when we can go back.

Donna P emailed Jun 2010 - We had a great holiday and found the house comfortable and well equipped. We made good use of the pool which was lovely . We loved the decking around the pool and enjoyed playing the garden Jenga. We thought you had put a lot of thought into equipping the house and providing info on the area and practicalities like supermarkets and restaurants which was very helpful.

We reserve the right to make retention from the breakages deposit to cover any additional cleaning costs should you leave the house in an unacceptable condition.
