After an absolutely marvellous weekend in London, absorbing the unique atmosphere of the last days of the Paralympic Games, it was wonderful to have another week in Folkestone enjoying the smell of the sea and the fresh air, as well as finding some tranquility in the beautiful Kentish countryside. Having spent so many memorable holidays in Folkestone, and always staying at the same B&B place in Wear Bay Road, which had become so special to us (but is no longer available), we thought Via Roma might not be quite the same… but in fact, the lovely apartment and ideal location, with its magnificent views, and the very warm welcome (with a breakfast starter kit in the fridge :-)) made it a most enjoyable stay. The apartment is very well equipped and offers all one needs for a perfect holiday. Some of the most beautiful spots on the Kentish coast, such as the Warren Country Park, the Leas Promenade or the Lower Leas Coastal Park, are within walking distance or a few minutes by car. We enjoyed our evening walks down to the harbour, where there are some good fish & chips places as well as some nice restaurants or pubs offering good food. We particularly recommend a visit to the Cliff Top Café in Capel-le-Ferne, on the Old Dover Road between Folkestone and Dover (less than 10 min. by car). Trying to think of what we liked least – this was clearly the moment of departure :-( We hope to return again soon – can't wait to see the White Cliffs again! –and Via Roma would definitely be on top of our list.
