Surya Pyrenees Guesthouse
B&B | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 11
Our relaxed guesthouse is located just a short walk (15 mins) from the heart of Foix, in the foothills of the Pyrenees and is a perfect base for year-round holidays. Foix is a lively market town with an historic medieval castle, busy market offering the best of local produce, pavement cafes and bars, and a wide choice of restaurants ranging from high-dining to family-friendly. The Pyrenees surrounding Foix are stunning and the Ariege is rich in culture and history, with medieval castles and ruins, prehistoric cave paintings, bustling towns and sleepy French villages.
We have the famous Cols of the Tour de France, fabulous crags for climbers and hiking and mountain bike trails right on our doorstep, with the Cathar Way starting just a 5 min walk from us. We're also within easy access of a wealth of sporting activities including horse-riding, golf, canoeing, rafting, canyoning, paragliding and watersports. If on holiday with a young family there's plenty around to keep everyone entertained : animal parks and farms, Prehistoric and Dinosaur Park, nearby lakes with pedalos and beaches for swimming and the science centre for rainy days (of which there are very few!) We also a children's area with trampoline, swings and a sand pit so that you can relax too. Foix is ideally placed for day trips to surrounding places of interest eg Mirepoix, Carcassonne, St Lizier, the ruins of Montsegur & Roquefixade, the caves at Maz D'Azil, and Niaux with the famous prehistoric cave paintings and a short drive to the Mediterranean coast takes you through wine country on the way. Back at home Corinne is a qualified yoga teacher and we run daily drop-in yoga classes in our small studio or out by the pool. Everyone is welcome no matter your yoga experience. We have a small fleet of mountain bikes too and can offer maps and local knowledge as well as transport to trail heads further away for those who're interested. So, whether you want to explore, get active in the mountains, or simply relax by the pool you're sure to have a great time.

The Midi-Pyrenees region
In the heart of the Ariege, our guest house is ideal for exploring this unspoilt region, and the mountains offer so much to see and do. Nearby are lakes with sandy beaches, lovely walks and hikes, and all the acvities you'd expect in the mountains from climbing to horse riding. Both road cycling and mountain biking are extremely popular, and in the winter there's downhill and cross country skiing available. For those looking for culture, the prehistoric cave paintings at Nauix are a must see, and the string of Cathar castles, perched on the hill tops nearby are fascinating.
Foix is an atmospheric market town, dominated by the castle, with cobbled streets and historic buildings, and pavement cafes, bars and restaurants.
There's a wealth of great outdoor activities including walking, climbing, rafting, canoeing, horse-riding, fishing, golf and paragliding.
There’s also plenty for kids including a prehistoric park, miniature railway, wolf farm, lakes with sandy beaches for swimming and donkey trekking to name a few.
In winter you can take the 'ski train' from the bottom of our road up to Ax-les-thermes for around 30 euros, which includes train, cable car and ski pass for the day. Snowshoeing, ice-climbing and sledging are all very close by.

"What a disappointment!"
Having read the glowing reports from other reviewers, I fail to recognize the same place as we stayed. My wife booked with a friend attracted by the yoga classes and I joined her towards the end of her… More
You have written this review because you didn't want to pay your bill, and not as a fair reflection of the service we gave you. You booked a 6 night stay, and on arrival asked if your husband, could come and join you on the last night. Of course we said yes. Would there be any extra charge? Of course not. Then you informed us that you planned to leave a night early. OK.
However, when it came to paying for your stay, you didn't want to pay for the last night. Now you hadn't told us prior to your arrival, and we had no chance to re-sell that night, and had, in fact previously turned away booking requests for that date. So, we expected you to honour your booking. But you argued with us about this for over half an hour before agreeing to pay.
Your 'review' also fails to mention that up until this point you were complimentary and you took full advantage of the care we show to all our guests;
- We collected you from the station (free of charge)
- We drove you into town when it was raining (free of charge)
- We went to the supermarket for you so you were free to go hiking (free of charge)
- We arranged extra yoga classes to suit you
- We lent you maps and gave you lots of advice on where to go
- We cooked you dinners, which you enjoyed, even asking for the recipes
- Of the 3 yoga classes you took 2 were private classes, (including Yin yoga) so you chose what you wanted to do in them (strange that they were then 'too athletic')
- And finally you chose the smaller of the two rooms offered to you and were delighted because it has a king size bed and your husband was joining you.
We are a small, friendly, family run B&B that offers yoga classes, and has many repeat guests. We are not a five star hotel. Our facilities are clearly explained on our website, and there are photos of the rooms, guest living area, pool, outside spaces etc which show these exactly as they are. We are surprised that you booked if our simple, clean style of décor wasn't to your liking. We also had quite a few long, detailed conversations on the telephone regarding the prices, the yoga, the accommodation, her diet etc, so again we cannot understand how this situation has come about. (And we do give our guests quotes, and bills – as we explained our printer wasn't working the morning you left, but we showed you the bill on the computer, and emailed it to you there and then, so that you had a record.)
So it seems it is you who has tried to take advantage of our good nature, and have now written a negative review because we simply expected you to pay your bill.
And finally: To other potential guests, please read the other reviews! And if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.

"Beautiful hidden gem"
Myself, my partner and son who is 4 years old stayed here in June for a week. This place really is something special, the owners are lovely and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
The accommodation is really clean and you just feel at home. Our bedroom slept 3 people comfortably and had nice views of the mountains and also the pool, the lounge area is great, with a tv, sitting area and dinning table, giving plenty of room, cooking facilities are great, you have an indoor stove, outdoor cooker you can use and also the bbq. Outdoors you have full use of the pool, we had the pool pretty much to ourselves too and the views from the pool are just amazing, also all closed in so really safe for children, for the kids there is also a trampoline and swings. Our 4 year old absolutely loved it as there was so much for him to play with. We had breakfast included in our holiday and all I could say I would highly recommend, fresh bread and croissants, yogurts, fresh fruit from the garden, fresh coffee and a variety of cereals to choose from, absolutely gorgeous!
The house is a 15 min walk to the town of Foix, lovely little French town, full of character and things to do. Highly recommend a trip to the castle too - I think it was about 6 euros each to get in, so well worth it. Also about a 10 minute walk from the house is a train station if you dont take a car, we didn't and we managed to get around just fine. Also for an additional cost the owners will take you to places if you need.
Most enjoyable holiday and highly recommended, we cant wait to go back again!
