Árbakki,Reykjaskógur. Situated near the fantastic Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir.
This beautiful cottage is situated in Reykjaskógur near the town of Laugarvatn and Geysir in the geothermal area of Haukadalur. Only 60 min drive from Reykjavik and 110 min from the airport in Keflavik. The distance from the town of Laugarvatn is 17 km (approx. 10 minute drive) and the magnificent Geysir is only a 10-15 minute drive away.
Árbakki is a charming 50 square meter cottage, along with 11 square meter guesthouse with toilet and a wash basin. In front and at the sides of the cottage there is a lovely patio with outdoor furniture and hot tub where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Reykjaskógur. The cottage is sitting close to the beautiful Brúará river. You can hear relaxing sounds from the rolling river from the patio. There is a beautiful birch wood in between the cottage and the river making it safe for children to play freely on the lawn.
The cottage is heated all year around with hot spring water floor heating and the hot tub is also filled with geothermal spring water.
The cottage has two bedrooms with comfortable spring beds, one bedroom with a double bed (180 cm) and another room with a smaller bed (130 cm). The living room has a convertible sofa which comfortably sleeps two adults, dining table, satellite television with several international channels, dvd player and radio with CD.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, fridge with freezer, toaster, coffee maker, teakettle and table ware for 8-10 persons. Also smaller appliances such as a blender, waffle iron and sandwich iron. Storage room with washing machine.
The guesthouse has a 160 cm spring bed, a small table and chair, and a small toilet with water basin.
There is a small lawn outside the cottage with a sand pit and outdoor toys for children (croquet set, boccia set and Kubb Viking game, along with shovels and buckets). Only a 3 minute walk away there is a common area with a miniature golf course, basketball hoop, swings and other playground equipment.
SERVICE AND DINING:
Laugarvatn town (10 minute drive): At Laugarvatn there is a very good, but small supermarket, ATM and post box. Lindin Resturant - Bistro café, The Gallery in Laugarvatn, a handcraft gallery, offering a variety of Icelandic handcrafts. Also Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths, and an outdoor swimming pool.
Efsti-Dalur (5 minute drive): A family farm hotel offering accommodation for travellers as well as the lovely Barnloft Restaurant. The same family has lived on the farm since 1850. Their main occupation is cattle farming, tourism and horse breeding. In 1992, the family started tourism services by opening a horse rental. In 2003 and started renting out 4 rooms on the first floor of their home but built a log house with 10 spacious rooms. In 2008 the family moved into a new house and the old home now includes a very nice restaurant, lobby and rooms.
Geysir Hotel and Restaurant: (10-15 minute drive) The Geysir-Center, which is directly opposite the geothermal area of Geysir and Strokkur, consists of a building complex with elegant restaurants, hotel, souvenir/outdoor/fashion shop, snack shop, Geysir museum with multimedia show and camping area. Right beside the hotel is a golf course and around fishing, hiking areas, Haukadalur woods and Langjökull glacier tours and other activities such as highland tours. Gullfoss waterfall is only 10 minutes away by drive from Geysir. It is therfore perfect for day trips. Further details of activities in the region is available at the hotel's website geysircenter.is.
ATTRACTIONS AND ACTIVITY:
There are countless attractions close to the cottage, from where you can take different day trips.
Geysir: There is only a 10-15 minute drive to the magnificent Geysir and Strokkur geysers, which lie in the Haukadalur valley on the slopes of Laugarfjall hill.
Thingvellir: The Thingvellir National Park is only a 20 min drive away from the cottage. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Thingvellir which is a place held in high esteem by all Icelanders.
Located in Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is a rift that is part of the divergent tectonic boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates. You can dive in Silfra with professional diving services.
Gullfoss: Is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country. About a kilometer above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m (105 ft) deep. The crevice, about 20 m (60 ft) wide, and 2.5 km in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river.
Hekla mountain: A stratovolcano in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). Hekla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes. Over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. Europeans called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell" in the Middle Ages.
1,477 m high (4,846 ft)) is a mountain range,situated in the Highlands of Iceland near the Kjölur highland road. The volcanic origin of these mountains is evidenced by the numerous hot springs and rivulets in the area.
Langjökull: The second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2), after Vatnajökull. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic interior or Highlands of Iceland and can be seen clearly from Haukadalur.

Golf: There are several magnificent golf courses within from a 10 to 40 minute drive, such as Geysir golf course, Úthlíð golf course, Laugarvatn golf corse, Flúðir golf corse, Öndverðarnes golf corse and Kiðjaberg golf corse, to name a few.
Northen Lights. You may catch a view of the Northen Lights from the cabin if you stay during the winter time
