**Take a daytrip to :

Hekla mountain:

Is a stratovolcano in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft).

Hekla is one of Iceland's most active volcanoes; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874.

During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell".

Hekla is part of a volcanic ridge, 40 kilometres (25 mi) long.

The most active part of this ridge, a fissure about 5.5 km (3.4 mi) long named Heklugjá, is considered to be the volcano Hekla proper.

Hekla looks rather like an overturned boat, with its keel being a series of craters, two of which are generally the most active.

Kerlingarfjöll:

1,477 m high (4,846 ft)) is a mountain range, situated in the Highlands of Iceland near the Kjölur highland road.

The volcanic origin of these mountains is evidenced by the numerous hot springs and rivulets in the area.

They are part of a large volcano system of 100 km2 (39 sq mi). The volcanoes of the range are tuyas.

The earth is shimmering red in this area because of the volcanic rhyolite stone the mountains are composed of. Minerals that have emerged from the hot springs also color the ground yellow, red and green

Langjökull:

The second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2), after Vatnajökull.

It is situated in the west of the Icelandic interior or Highlands of Iceland and can be seen clearly from Haukadalur.

It's volume is 195 km³ and the ice is up to 580 m (1,900 ft) thick.

The highest point of the ice cap (at Baldjökull at the northern end of Langjökull) is about 1,450 m (4,760 ft) above sea level.

I recommend walking in the woods in the hills and by the lake in Laugarvatn, enjoying the bird life and scenery. You may catch a trout in the lake, if you like fishing and cook it in the cabin.

At Laugarvatn you´ll find the supermarket, ATM and letterbox. Lindin Resturant - Bistro cafe : Wild and Sweet,

Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths, jacuzzi and dining. Outdoor swimming pool is beside Fontana.

Nearest attractions and things to do from Laugarvatn:

Thingvellir 15 mín(Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir and therefore the place is held in high esteem by all Icelanders. Today Þingvellir is a protected national shrine.)

Gullfoss and Geysir 20min and there you have a large icelandic souvenir shop, Skálholt Church 20 min, Kerið(the Crater) 15 min, Selfoss 30 min (Shopping/groceries/medical services),horse riding tours in Hveragerdi (Eldhestar) 40 min.

In Thingvellir you can go diving in lake Silfra.

Golf Course is in 10 minutes in Miðdal.

Catch the Northen lights in the cabin if you will stay at winter....no light pollution :)

**Within 1 hours drive you'll find the magnificent:

Gullfoss:

Is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.About a kilometer above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step "staircase" and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m (105 ft) deep.

The crevice, about 20 m (60 ft) wide, and 2.5 km in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river.

The average amount of water running over this waterfall is 140 m³/s in the summertime and 80 m³/s in the wintertime.

The highest flood measured was 2000 m³/s.

Geysir:

Geysir lies in the Haukadalur valley on the slopes of Laugarfjall hill, which is also the home to Strokkur geyser about 50 metres south.

Eruptions at Geysir can hurl boiling water up to 70 metres in the air.

Silfra in Thingvellir:

Located in Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is a rift that is part of the divergent tectonic boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates. You can dive in Silfra.

Kerið :

Is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, on the popular tourist route known as the Golden Circle.

The caldera itself is approx 55 m (180 ft) deep, 170 m (560 ft) wide, and 270 m (890 ft) across.

Kerið's caldera is one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters because at approx 3,000 years old, it is only half the age of most of the surrounding volcanic features.
