The Tuscany region
Tuscany is a region in Italy and is known for its landscapes and its artistic heritage. Six Tuscan localities have been UNESCO protected sites: the historical centre of Florence, Siena, Pisa, of San Gimignano, Pienza and the Val d'Orcia. Tuscany is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance movement, and its artistic attractiveness includes architecture, painting and sculpture, collected in dozens of museums in towns and cities across the region. Perhaps the best-known are the Uffizi, the Accademia and the Bargello in Florence. Tuscany was the birthplace of Dante Alighieri, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei and Botticelli

Florence, the spectacular capital of the region of Tuscany, is located on Italy's north west coast. It is a stunning medieval city divided into two parts by the River Arno that flows from the Apennines through Florence and Pisa and on to the Ligurian Sea. Browsing through Florence's collection of breathtaking architecture, sculpture, monuments, museum and other treasures of art might overwhelm you. Apart from the overwhelming art and cultural treasures, the city offers one of the Italy's most atmospheric and pleasant places to visit. The streets of Florence radiate the charm of Italian culture.
