Florence boasts an extraordinary wealth of art, a splendid testimony to its centuries-old civilization, for the most part preserved in the more than 70 city museums. To avoid wasting time, and to make the most of your stay, we recommend you to take advantage of our ticket-reservation service.
The entrance to the State-managed museums is free to residents of the European Union who are under 18 and over 65 years of age. We remind you that many of these museums are closed on Mondays. INSTEAD, the museums managed by the City of Florence offer a reduced ticket-price for children aged 3 to 17 years, youth aged 18 to 25 years and seniors over 65. SUGGESTION FOR 1-DAY TOUR OF FLORENCE (for guests staying only 1 day in Florence):
If you only have one day you can explore the heart of Florence downtown. You may start visiting the Piazza del Duomo, where the most important religious buildings are placed, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, crowned by the Dome, while, next to it, stands the slender bell tower by Giotto, and in front of it, the Baptistery of San Giovanni. Following on Via Calzaiuoli, you will pass the Church of Orsanmichele adorned with sculptures, and a little farther ahead, you will arrive in Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of Florence. Here the Palazzo della Signoria, or Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace), has stood since the end of 1200, once belonging to the Medici Family. The Palazzo Vecchio is the headquarter of the Florence municipalità, but it is also a museum. Next to it is the Loggia dei Lanzi, where statues by many artists are displayed. Connected to the Palazzo Vecchio is the impressive Uffizi Museum, designed by Vasari, a paradigmatic museum for Italian art. The visit to the Gallery requires at least 2,5/3 hours. If you do not have enough time, continue on foot towards the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), one of the symbols of Florence. You cross over the Arno to find the neighborhood of Santo Spirito. Of the four historic city districts, three (San Giovanni, Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce) are on this side of the Arno, while only one, Santo Spirito, is located on the left bank. Here is also Piazza Pitti and Palazzo Pitti, home to several museums and enhanced by the largest city park, the Boboli Gardens. If you still have a little time, you can go head towards Piazza Santo Spirito, where you can soak up the lively atmosphere of the neighborhood. It is home to numerous crafts and at its centre is the church of Santo Spirito, designed by Brunelleschi. Complete the tour with the complex of Santa Maria del Carmine, where Masaccio frescoed the Brancacci Chapel.
SUGGESTION FOR TWO DAYS OR MORE TO SPEND IN FLORENCE::
After performed the tour as described above, here is a suggestion for other days to spend in Florence: not far from the Central Train Station “Santa Maria Novella-SMN” is the beautiful church that gave its name to the Station: the Church of Santa Maria Novella and the Museum. Then continue on to Palazzo Strozzi, one of the most important Renaissance buildings and now home to art exhibitions. Proceeding toward Piazza della Repubblica, you come to the “Roman” heart of the city, while the current piazza (square) is the result of the nineteenth century public renovation works. Returning to Piazza Duomo and then toward onto Via Martelli, a few meters ahead you will see another great Renaissance building, Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, the home of Cosimo de' Medici, the Elder of the Medici family. In the area we suggest you to visit two other places connected to Florentine nobility. The first is the Church of San Lorenzo, also connected to the Laurentian Library, the Old Sacristy and the Medici Chapels. The second is Piazza San Marco, that you reach following on Via Cavour, where the Church and Convent of San Marco are located. Nearby is the museum of the Accademia Gallery, while if you continue ahead, you reach the harmonious Piazza Santissima Annunziata, surrounded by buildings with porticos, of which the most important is the Spedale degli Innocenti, and the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata. To the left of the church on the corner of Via Capponi is the entrance to the Archaeological Museum, with Etruscan, Roman and Egyptian collections. Complete the tour with the Synagogue and its museum.
On the right bank of the Arno river, we recommend a visit to the Museum of the Opera del Duomo (full of details on how&why the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore was built). From here, going along Via Proconsolo, you will reach the austere Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, now the Museum of the Bargello with important sculptures (by Donatello, Michelangelo and many others). Michelangelo's works may be also found in the nearby Casa Buonarroti, from which, in a few minutes, you will approach Piazza Santa Croce, dominated by the famous Basilica, the Pantheon of Italian glories. Returning to the Arno, to your left you will find a Renaissance palace that houses the Horne Museum, and over the Ponte alle Grazie bridge, you will see the Bardini Museum. Fans of science should not miss the Galileo Museum, which houses important scientific instruments including Galileo Galilei's telescopes, and overlooks the Arno river. Walking up the steep and picturesque Costa Scarpuccia and Costa San Giorgio, you come to one of the most spectacular spots in Florence, Forte Belvedere, while with a nice walk in the shade of the trees on the Viale dei Colli you will reach the Romanesque basilica of San Miniato al Monte. Just below the church is the Piazzale Michelangelo, a balcony over the whole city, much loved by tourists.

"Fantastic Stay - Best Apartment in Florence!"
After a 5 week vacation, this rental was by far the best self catering apartment we stayed in. The amenities provided were outstanding. The rooms are large, clean, spacious and parking onsite. The location is great only 15 mins from the centre of Florence by train which is very easier and quick to use. The manager of the apartments and her family were very helpful and provided everything we required and much more! Great tour and restaurant recommendations along with great practical information about Florence.
