Description: The centre of Florence was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. It is located among a number of avenues within its former Medieval walls and is home to some of the most important cultural features of the city. From this moment onwards it began to flourish. This was the birthplace of the Renaissance, and is known as one of the universal cradles of art and architecture where names such as Dante Alighieri, Brunelleschi (most important Renaissance architect) Boccaccio and Leonardo Da Vinci first appeared. Today the centre of Florence offers a whole range of cultural, tourist and leisure activities.
