Our 45-square metre apartment is situated on the 4th (top) floor of a typically Florentine building on a narrow street just off chic Via Tornabuoni and a block north of the river. Please note that there is no lift. It is an ideal size for 2 people, but possible for 3/4. It consists of kitchen (which is the entrance into the apartment), bedroom, living room and bathroom. It is comfortable and bright and has just been re-decorated. There are pictures on the walls and books in the bookcase to make you feel at home. Furnishings are a comfortable mix of period and modern pieces. The flat is within a traffic-limited zone, so it is quiet: the view is of rooftops with the odd roof garden, and there is plenty of natural light.

The bedroom can be made up with a double or two single beds (with duvets) and there is a chest of drawers wih mirror and a large wardrobe with lots of hanging and shelf space.

The sitting room has a table that allows four people to eat in comfort, a comfortable sofa (sofa bed for two), TV, DVD and stereo system with ipod dock. There's a library of books (mostly in English) and lots of tourist information and guide books about Florence, Tuscany and the rest of Italy.

The bathroom has shower, bidet, basin and WC

The kitchen has lovely warm wood counter tops, a gas hob, a small electric oven and a washing machine and is well supplied with pots and pans. It separates the bathroom from the bedroom and living room, so if more than two people are staying, both rooms are completely private.

There is air conditioning and fans for the summer and gas central heating for the winter months.

The Tuscany region

Florence is the regional capital of Tuscany. There is enough to see in Florence itself to keep you busy for weeks, but there are plenty of places of interest within easy reach of the city. Siena, Pisa, Arezzo and Lucca are all within an hour's drive of Florence and all are well served by public transport. The beach at chic Forte dei Marmi is an hour and a half away or you can drive further afield to the beautiful Maremma area for cleaner sea and wilder beaches. There are several golf courses within easy reach of Florence. Wine lovers shouldn't miss a tour of the Chianti vineyards, but if wine isn't your thing, a visit to some of the charming hilltowns of Tuscany is a great way to spend a day.

Our apartment is located at teh very heart of Florence's historic centre, or centro storico. The chic designer boutiques are a stone's throw from the front door and yet this is a very typical and characterful neighbourhood, far-enough removed from the well-worn tourist paths to feel local. Within 10 minutes walk you will find most of Florence's celebrated monuments: the Uffizi and Accademia galleries, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Piazza Signoria, the Duomo and Santa Maria Novella. There are many restaurants, bars and caffès within easy walking distance and we are just across the river from the Bohemian and picturesque 'Oltrarno' district, famous for its artisan workshops and lively nightlife. Santa Maria Novella train station is a 10 minute walk away. If you come with a car, there are several private garages with secure parking close by.

"Great location"

We loved this flat. Yes it is on the top floor so there are loads of stairs but you get plenty of light. The street is quiet with hardly any cars about as it is restricted to cars. I thought the flat … More

"charming apartment, perfect location"

This newly-refurbished, comfortable and contemporary apartment is twenty minutes walk at most from just about anywhere you would want to go in Florence, and a daily market, good bars and cafes and proper local shops are within two minutes walk. It has a well-equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, and a good supply of English novels and guide books, but best of all, it has a garden - very unusual for Florence, and great for taking a break at the end of a day of sightseeing. The owner is extremely knowledgeable about the city and surrounding areas, and is very willing to help and advise. This apartment is perfect for two, and comfortable for three or four.

"85 steps to Heaven!"

Let's clear the matter of the 85 steps first! The apartment is on the 4th floor (no lift, as described on the website) of a traditional house in a quiet street. So, be sure to be fit enough and do not bring heavy luggage! Once you have reached the apartment you will be rewarded. It is both cosy and spacious. There is an interesting view on the roofs, balconies and terraces of neighbouring houses from the bedroom window. The sitting room is comfortable, the bedroom has plenty of wardrobe space and the kitchen is very well equipped. We had cosy meals at the counter and were delighted to have another table for our paraphernalia of books, maps, diaries, cameras etc... But, best of all, was the atmosphere of our new home. We have rented many apartments in Europe over the years and, the better ones, such as Casa Luca ,feel like a real home, not like an hotel suite. If, as we do, you prefer personal touches, pieces of furniture which belong to the place, bookcases, lamps where they should be, a great selection of CDs, interesting pictures and photographs, you won't mind the TV not working and you will enjoy relaxing evenings.
It was not our first visit to Florence and we spent 10 leisurely days, revisiting old favourites and discovering more unusual parts of the city. What I am trying to say is : take your time, don't try to do too much, pause for lunch somewhere and return to Casa Luca to talk about your day in peace and comfort! Finally, we must mention how helpful Nicky was during the booking procedure (problems with PayPal were not her fault!) and in giving directions. It was an added bonus to meet her for coffee one morning, a nice change from the often anonymous rapport one has with apartments owners and agents, and which made us feel like (almost) true Florentines!

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review. I quite agree about finding personal bits and pieces in an apartment when you are renting: it really helps you to feel at home. And I really enjoy meeting the people who are staying with us. Come back soon!

"Wonderful stay in beautiful Florence"

We really enjoyed our stay in Nicky's apartment. The property is ideally located in central Florence (walking distance to everything!) and had everything you could want on holiday. It was very clean and just as described in the listing. Nicky was very friendly and accomodating and gave us great advice on things to see and do around Florence and Italy. We would reccomend this apartment to any who like a convenient location and some home comforts while on holiday.
