The Tuscany region

Tuscany is located in the centre of Italy, south Europe, mediterranean sea.

Fly to Pisa with Ryanair or EasyJet from several UK airports: Leeds/East Midlands/London

- Local taxis are readily available - fares no more than 20 Euros from Florence airport

- Local buses “Vola in Bus” run regularly between Florence airport and the city centre

- Inexpensive local train service ( between Pisa Airport and Florence

- Car hire available from / /

Getting to Florence is very easy and also fairly inexpensive. Florence has are two international airports. One is on the north side of Florence, the Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) which is just a 20 minute taxi or bus ride into the city centre and the other is in Pisa, the Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA) which is approximately 80 km. from Florence and which has regular train and bus connections to Florence (Santa Maria Novella). You will find many of the low cost airlines such as Ryanair, EasyJet, AirOne, Jet2 fly direct to Pisa and all the major companies such as Alitalia, Meridiana, Lufthansa, British Airways fly direct to Florence from London, Frankfurt, Paris, Monaco, Barcelona and many more European cities.

There are shuttle buses connecting Florence airport and Florence train station (Santa Maria Novella – S.M.N) with departures about every half hour. You can choose between two companies - “Terravision” or “Vola in Bus”. The “Vola in Bus” service is run by the local Florence bus company and tickets cost around 5 euros. The journey takes about 30 minutes. You can also catch a taxi to Florence and the trip costs around 20 euros depending on how much luggage you have.

From Pisa airport to Florence train station (Santa Maria Novella – S.M.N) there is a regular and inexpensive train service. Pricing and timetables can be found on the Italian railway company’s officiale “Trenitalia”. The journey takes just over 1 hour. From Florence train station we recommend you getting a taxi to the property.

For further information on driving in and around Florence, parking, transport, bike and car hire then you check out the Florence town’s council website in the English language :

Experienced multilingual staff are always available to assist guests in their every need; meeting and greeting guests on arrival, assistance with booking tickets or reserving tables at one of the typical Florentine restaurants and arranging private car transfers with driver for excursions in and around Tuscany and much more.

By Plane, the main airport in Tuscany is Pisa airport, also Florence airport is quite important. International flights arrive in Rome or Milan

By Car, A1, the most important Highway in Italy crosses Tuscany, passing through Florence, Arezzo and the South of Siena (Chiusi, Montepulciano).

By Train Train reach the most important towns in Tuscany, Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Pisa, Lucca, Livorno and Grosseto.

Tuscany is a year round destination and you can really come at any time without disappointment because every season has its own charme.

Of course during winter it does get cold, but certainly not as compared to central and northern Europe.

Not quite so busy and certainly recommended are the months of April, May and October. November is the month of the harvest either olive and Wine so those coming in this month will be able to live this important moment of the Tuscan lifestyle.

Main attractions near the house:Ponte Vecchio,Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo);Piazzale Michelangelo; the Astrophysical Observatory; Il Giardino di Boboli;San Miniato a Monte.Florence - "Florentia", the florid, was the name given by the Romans to this small settlement located at the foot of the ancient Etruscan Fiesole and founded in the first century BC.

Despite the internal struggles, first between rival families and then between the Guelfs (loyal to the Pope) and the Ghibellines (loyal to the Emperor), from the thirteenth century onwards it began to flourish as a city of art, culture and international trading, reaching its zenith in the fifteenth century under the Signoria of Cosimo and Lorenzo de’ Medici.

The territory of Florence is the guardian of an exceptional art heritage, a splendid testimony to its history and secular civilization from Fiesole with its Roman Theater to the hills of Chianti with its parish churches, endless itineraries may in fact be followed through the country side, offering a variety of different themes and high-quality content, both of cultural value and of environmental naturalistic interest.

If this is your first time in Florence, follow this link and find a comprensive guide to the area, with suggested places to see.

To visit the area around Florence we suggest to hire a car, or a moto. Distances are bigger than you may think.By carFlorence is geographically located in the middle of Italy, the main highway A1 which connect Milan to Naples, pass through Florence. Depending on your destination, you can exit Florence north, Centre, Certosa or South.Personally, I suggest to go to Florence, by train because the parking is almost impossible, the main parking is Santa Maria Novella, under the train station and it cost 3,50 Euro/hour. Many days during the year the city centre is not reachable by car, because the police block the traffic for smog, so you can also be stopped along the road with your luggages and constrict to take a taxi. If your hotel is in the city centre and the parking is not included, it can cost up to 30 Euro/day. Think about itBy TrainDue to its location, Florence is considered one of the most important train station in Italy. All the fastest trains stop here, in 2006 will be possible to reach Milan or Rome (300 Km) in 1,30 hours with the new fast train. There are many connections with these towns, every 2 hours there is a train and the station is centrally located, about 5 minutes from the city centre. Train is the best solution for those who want to visit Florence. By PlaneFlorence has an airport By BikeFlorence is not a main destination for bicycle lovers. The town is almost flat, but around there are many hills, Chianti area or Mugello are not very easy to see with bicycles. By BusBuses are also useful for Florence.See these companiesATAF for Florence townFLORENTIA BUS for Mugello, Valdisieve and ValdarnoLAZZI for Lucca, Pistoia, EmpoliSITA For the Chianti area or Val di PesaFlorence to Siena by bus or Siena to Florence by bus every hour, departure near the Santa Maria Novella train station. >at 30 mins drive -

"An unforgettable Experience - We will be back!!"

It is hard to put this review into words but the kindness shown by Nicoletta to all of us will never be forgotten. I will try my best to summarize our experience:- Accommodation - Spacious, clean in a beautiful setting Location - Short walk down the hill to the bus stop very frequent services into Florence (36/37/11 buses) Nicoletta and her son/other permanent residents of the farmhouse - Friendly, helpful, insightful, took time out of their life's to make our stay unforgettable. Even the two residents cats were friendly! My 1 year old managed to hug and kiss one of the cats on our last day!

"Wonderful, quiet, spacious property and a home away from home for an extended stay"

I stayed here just two weeks ago with my parents for 5 nights and I can not recommend this property enough. This was my parents first time to Florence and staying at Mimosa only enhanced their visit and their positive impressions of the city. If you are happy to take the short bus ride into the centre (it's only 10 - 15 mintues) then I would highly recommend staying here and if you are feeling lazy there are always taxis which really weren't that expensive. The property is in a lovely part of Florence's suburbs with a wonderful view and outdoor seating area out the back and is extremely convenient if you are driving due to the off road parking. The apartment is very well appointed, comfortable, quiet and spacious and a lovely sactuary to come back after the the hussle and bussle of the city centre. There are also amendities close by (a 15-30 minute walk depending on your pace, in the square at the end of the street down the hill) such as a supermarket, passticeria, restuarant and a rossticeria for when you want to self cater or not go into the city for dinner. Also top points to Nicoletta the owner who was a wonderfully welcoming and helpful host. She was there to welcome us to the property and happy to answer all our questions and provided some lovely touches such as a bottle of vin santo and cantucci bicscuits and coffee for the coffee maker as well as abundant information about the Florence such as maps and guide books. Again, I'd thoroughly recommend staying here especially for larger groups and families and for those planning a more extended stay as it's also a great base for taking day trips to the surrounding areas as well as Florence itself.
