The Tuscany region

The region of Tuscany spreads itself out over a rich area of hills and valleys, in which world renowned agricultural treats are cultivated, such as the prestigious wine of the hills. While recognized and renowned all over the world for its cities of art such as Florence, Siena, and Pisa, and Chianti for its unique landscapes, Tuscany also boasts the sublime Tyrrhenian coasts, a treat for those who prefer to enjoy their holiday relaxing on a beautiful beach.

The apartment is located in the Oltrarno district in Florence's historic city. The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno” and this district which stretches along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence to that which is found near the Duomo. The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and in general is slightly quieter, greener and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence. Indeed many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally an artisans' quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts today many lovely antique shops and artisans' studios (particularly furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence's thriving antiques trade.

Over time the Oltrarno became a rather chic area and many aristocrats chose this neighbourhood to build their villas and palaces, the largest of these being the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today this sumptuous palace houses several important museums which rank amongst the best in Florence. Other major sights the Oltrarno has to offer are the Cappella Brancacci with the fabulous frescoes of Masaccio, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breath-taking views over Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points in the city of Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture within Tuscany) together with the most famous and oldest bridge in Florence, Ponte Vecchio, home to a glittering array of jewellery shops and goldsmiths.

Extending up the hill from the Pitti Palace are the formal Boboli Gardens, an outdoor museum of garden sculpture that includes Roman antiquities as well as 16th and 17th century works. The Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market held every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those choosing an apartment in this area the Oltrarno quarter also offers a choice of grocery stores, patisserie, bakeries, gift shops and much more.

"Friendly helpful owner"

Both Paola and Tito were extremely helpful. They provided a map with bus stops, taxi stops, and supermarket info? A great apartment in a very convenient location not far from Ponta Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery.

"Stylish apartment that offers very good value"

If you plan to spend in a few days in Florence, we can definitely recommend this apartment. It is in the more refined Oltrarno district, which is just far away enough from the busy areas, while only a few minutes away from the main tourist attractions.

The owner was very friendly and adaptable to our arrival time. She met us at the apartment and went through things and answered any questions we had. The apartment was clean, tidy and uncluttered and had everything you would want. The kitchen was modern and concise, with flat screen t.v, wi-fi and a good bathroom. The bedroom had two decent sized wardrobes with plenty of hangers too!

This apartment offers good value for money in a location which we feel will suit many people who plan to visit Florence and the surrounding areas. We had no problems or issues with the apartment and we would be very happy to stay again if we return to Florence - which we hope to!

"Extremely helpful owner. Comfortable place. Perfect location."

We have had a great stay at that place. We liked the apartment, which was fully furnished, clean, and comfortable. Wi-Fi was free and worked very fast. The place has fantastic location – close to the Uffizi, Duomo, Piazza Signora. The whole area is plenty of restaurants. There is also the supermarket on the same street. And besides, the help and assistance of owner - Paola and Tito were admirable – they even arranged for us the garage (we travelled by car).
