The Tuscany region
From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.
Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture.
There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. Certainly most should start with Florence, then continue on to Siena and Pisa. The roll call of città di arte, cities of art, is daunting: Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and Lucca are all striking. The more you come to know the region, the more extraordinary Tuscany appears.
Florence, Italy is the capital city of the Tuscany region and is one of the country's most important and historic cities. Full of beautiful, Renaissance-style buildings, including wonderful churches and enormous palaces, Florence is steeped in culture and atmosphere, and has not changed greatly since the 16th century.
As with innumerable great cities, Florence is built around a large river, the River Arno. This can be crossed at many points, but without doubt the most grand of all the bridges is Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), which was built in 1345. This three-arched bridge is the oldest bridge in Florence and is lined with many shops, mostly jewellers and goldsmiths. High above the shops is a secret passageway that links the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace, and this is now open to the public.

"Authentic Italian Apartment Well Located for Tourist Sites"
This apartment is in an old building and is beautifully appointed. I really felt like I had my own traditional Italian apartment. The apartment is well positioned, up a steep street, near the Ponte Vecchio and you can easily walk to all the key tourist sites on either side of the Arno.
The apartment is warm and has all expected appliances. The owner, Paolo, is a charming and helpful host.
Next time I plan to stay longer Paolo. I can't get enough of Firenze.
