The Tuscany region

Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture.

There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. Certainly most should start with Florence, then continue on to Siena and Pisa. The roll call of città di arte, cities of art, is daunting: Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and Lucca are all striking.

Florence

It is the most ancient, characteristic and genuine quarter of Florence, extending along the left bank of the Arno River. It is an optimal starting point both for visiting the historical centre of Florence, and for outdoor excursions in the evocative hills surrounding the city. It is just a few minutes' walk from the Pitti Palace, the Boboli gardens, the Santo Spirito and Santa Maria del Carmine churches, the Forte Belvedere, the neighborhood of San Frediano and of San Niccolò. It is also possible to walk to the magnificent Basilica of San Miniato al Monte and appreciate the panoramic view of Piazzale Michelangelo, or take a stroll along the Renaissance villas of Bellosguardo, with a view over the old town. In a few minutes by car, you can reach the Certosa (Charterhouse) del Galluzzo, visit the Florentine Chianti and, further on, reach the towns of Siena and Volterra (these places can be easily reached by bus). The apartment is situated on the first floor of a building of the early twentieth century and consists of a living room, a kitchen-dining room, bathroom, two bedrooms, a storeroom and a balcony. From the central railway station there are 4 different busses getting to the house in approx. 10 min. It can be easily reached by car and there are parking spaces also for non-residents.
