About this location
The Tuscany region
Florence is one of those city breaks that offer real magic when you visit. But what makes it so fantastic?.... Read more
The city has a tight network of streets in its busy centre opening up into squares littered with renaissance art, palazzos and street side cafes to sit back and take in the atmosphere.
The giant dome of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, or Duomo, looms over the hotchpotch of squares below.
The grand Piazza della Signoria is the perfect meeting spot for dates at the Uffizi Gallery next door. Catch a glimpse of the piazza's copycat David statue before you see him at the nearby Accademia gallery.
If you travel up to the Michelangelo Gardens you can get a classic photo of the roofs and domes of the city below with the river in front.
To get around in the city, start off on foot. It's a very walkable centre. Otherwise there are hop on hop off buses, or you can take advantage of the good bus system with orange ATAF electric minibuses zipping along Florence's central, narrow roads to the Duomos doorstep.
