The Tuscany region

MASSO is situated in secluded rural setting in the Chianti countryside. CHIANTI is the heartland of the region of TUSCANY, loved, feared and fought over by the giants of each century for two and a half thousand years.
Its painters, its writers and its poets and philosophers inspired the Renaissance.

Chianti is a renowned wine and olive oil producing region, and there are many winery's to discover..
In the area there are many historical towns such as Certaldo, San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena.. or for a day trip you can visit Lucca, Arezzo, Pisa and the coast is just one hours drive away.

Following a quick guide: TOSCANA
Tuscany, a province of natural beauty, award-winning wine and olive oil and timeless serenity located in the heart of central Italy. From the rolling vineyards of the Chianti Classico region to the pristine beaches of the Maremma, Tuscany has many facets and many opportunities to host the holiday of your dreams.
An advantage to renting a villa or farmhouse in Tuscany is location, you are a just a daytrip away from literally dozens of charming villages, world famous tourist attractions and priceless collections of Renaissance art.
Visit the Uffizi Gallery and Michelangelo’s David in Florence. Climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa or walk on top of the ancient wall surrounding the town of Lucca, both located to the west between Florence and the Tyrrenian Sea. Relax in the hot thermal baths of Montecatini Terme, Bagno Vignoni, Saturnia, to name just a fewof the natural springs located throughout the province.
Tour wineries throughout the Chianti region, or visit the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino to sample
their famous red wines on location. Explore the Etruscan ruins of Volterra and the monthly antiques market in downtown Arezzo. Visit the medieval splendors of Siena and San Gimignano..

Transportation
While some larger towns, like Florence and Pisa, are accessible by train and many small villages are accessible by bus, renting a car is an overwhelmingly popular choice and by far the easiest and most economic way to get around. Renting a car allows you the ease of visiting places off the beaten path and gives you the freedom to choose your own schedule so you don’t have to rely on public transportation, which can be scarce on the weekends. Having your own car makes it easier to shop for groceries or stay out late after dinner in a country Trattoria.

TUSCANY is exceptional in every regard. Florence is Europe's greatest Renaissance city, Siena and San Gimignano are two of its most perfect medieval towns, and Lucca, Cortona and Pienza.. are historical gems. Tuscany is renowned for its food and wine, its beaches, its villas and gardens, and for some of the world's
most beautiful and varied landscapes. Tuscany is a charmed land, equally blessed by the genius of man and nature, and often by the combined efforts of both.
When you rent a Tuscany villa or a Tuscany farmhouse, you are merely a daytrip away from all of these famous destinations and their artistic and culinary attractions.

FLORENCE
Located in the northern area of Tuscany is the province’s unofficial capital, Florence (Firenze). Universally recognized as the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence boasts more famous works of art per square kilometer than any other city on earth. The small, walkable historical centre is a living work of art in itself, with palaces that date back to the 11th century and famous piazzas unchanged since the Renaissance. Michelangelo, Botticelli, and hundreds of other Renaissance artists made Florence their home, and their works are now displayed in dozens of museums, from The Birth of Venus in the world-famous Uffizi Gallery to the David in the smaller but no less important Accademia Gallery. Wander through the maze of the Boboli Gardens on the grounds of the former Medici residence the Pitti Palace and search out the collection of Titian masterpieces in the Palatine Gallery inside. Visit the ornate tomb of Lorenzo il Magnifico in the Medici Chapel, shop for souvenirs in the neighboring leather market of San Lorenzo..

SIENA
Long a rival of Florence since the early days of the governing city-states, Siena is a picture-perfect medieval city centre to the southeast. The sixteen contrade, or neighborhoods, that make up the historical centre wrap around thefocal point of Siena: the majestic Piazza del Campo. This square hosts the world-famous palio bareback horse race every July 2 and August 16, where each of the sixteen neighborhoods compete against each other with a prize racehorse to win a portrait of the Madonna and a lavish ceremony in Siena’s impressive black-and-white marble Duomo.

SAN GIMIGNANO
Perched high on a hilltop west of Siena and south of Florence lies San Gimignano, a tiny, picturesque village nicknamed ‘the Medieval Manhattan” for its skyline of towers. Twelve of the original 72 towers still stand to this day, displaying the wealth and power of the noble families that competed to build the tallest one. The magnificent sacred frescoes, breathtaking panoramic views and laid-back, carefree pace of life that San Gimignano is known for was highlighted in Franco Zeffirelli’s film Tea With Mussolini. Sample a glass of the local Vernaccia di San Gimignano white wine while you’re in town.

LUCCA
Lucca, a peaceful, pristine village an hour west of Florence, is the birthplace of legendary composer Giacomo Puccini. Enclosed by a massive wall once used for protection that visitors today can walk on top of, the cobblestoned streets lined with gleaming white churches and fashion boutiques are closed to motor traffic,
populated only by pedestrians and bicyclists.

PISA
Not far from Lucca is Pisa, home to the infamous architectural enigma: the Leaning Tower. Once a powerful port located on the banks of the Arno River several kilometers from the sea, the mouth of the river eventually silted up, rendering the port useless and the city vulnerable to attacks from neighboring Florence. Today
Pisa is a bustling university town and an important stop on the grand tour of Italy, not only to view the famous tower (which recently reopened to those brave enough to climb it) but its beautiful setting, the Campo dei Miracoli. This “piazza of miracles” is a stunning cluster of four sacred buildings: the Duomo, Baptistry, Mausoleum and leaning Bell Tower. The gleaming white marble of the buildings surrounded by a lush green lawn is an unforgettable image of beauty.
